View Full Version : Protein shake w/ Banana?
Mando359 Thu, November 10th, 2005, 02:40 AM I'm currently thinking of switching my breakfast from 3 packs of oatmeal to a protien shake containing 12 Strawberry's, 2 Scoops of Vanilla Whey Protein, Ice, and 1 Large Banana. However in reading up on the nutritional content of bananas I learned that 90% of the carbs are from sugar.
I've currently stayed away from bananas and most other fruits while cutting but since I'm going to start morning cardio, I figured this might be a healthy whey to 'treat myself' while signifcantly raising my morning protein intake to make up for the possible loss of muscle that goes with morning cardio.
Anyway is the sugar in a banana bad for cutting?
bradh Thu, November 10th, 2005, 02:45 AM Fructose is not too bad but i would not take it in the mornings. You want complex carbs with fiber in the mornings. 1 to 2 pieces of fruit a day shouldn't hurt. Take in around your workouts if you like fruit. Berries are the better choice.
Masher Thu, November 10th, 2005, 03:44 AM I disagree. 1 piece of fruit in the morning is fine. Also, I would be aiming for 5-6 pieces of fruit & veg each day just to get necessary vitamins.

multivitamins, vitamin c pills
eat a piece of fruit
but eat tons of greens- i eat a lb of brocolli a day
bradh Thu, November 10th, 2005, 04:17 AM Yep, i should my shut mouth, fruit has lots of nuitrion, but i avoid them because of the simple carbs, i try to get them around my workouts in pure form.
I need to keep carbs down on sober days :D
Sholezard Thu, November 10th, 2005, 07:26 AM There's nothing wrong with bananas. I have one every morning with my oatmeal and egg whites. Obviously it's right before my workout though. I don't think I could go a day without a banana - absolutely love them! :D
karatetricker Thu, November 10th, 2005, 11:02 AM Fruit is good and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

During my cut I ate 2 bananas and 1 apple daily. As far as I could tell, it had no detrimental effect on my weight loss. I say enjoy!!!!!:eat:

Nope. Deficit is a deficit....good source of fiber and potassium.
Nothing wrong with in the morning....liver glycogen is lower (assuming your in a caloric deficit). A lot of people get all hung up that fruit refills the liver first.... no biggie....it's not like it stays there forever....if your body needs the energy, the liver will release it....

I love statements like this (goes to show the myth of fruit)....
1 medium banana = 105 cal
0 fat
1g Protien
27g Carbs
3g Fiber
14g Sugar
14/27 = 52% not 90%
of that 14g:
2.82g Sucrose
5.876g Glucose
5.723g Fructose
Banana is probably better PWO then Pre if you ask me since glucose and fructose are about 1:1
punkchip Thu, November 10th, 2005, 02:58 PM 14/27 = 52% not 90%

5.723g Fructose
Just curious, where did you find that info? the amount of Sucrose, glucose etc. I was looking for that myself.
