Hey guys, i guess it doesn't take a rocket scientist but i was wondering what the front squatters done for comfort during the lift and to avoid bruises. I have marks on both shoulders from monday and one delt has a 2" yellow bruise on it right now.

I'm thinking of taping a little bit of sponge around it. The problem will be my squats racks are narrow but it shouldn't be a major problem. I just don't have a lot of sponge because i use most of it for cable rows. Yes i have a concrete floor.:)

btw How much do those mantra rays or something cost? Are they used for high bar back squats too? That can get uncomfortable also and leave sores.

Huh. I thought I replied to this already but I don't see it.

The Manta Ray is for squats and the Sting Ray is for front squats. Only heard good things about them but I didn't receive mine yet - they should be here any day.

Good luck with the homemade.

The thing that finally made me do it is when I did a total of about 320 squats in the "card game". The set of 38 I did after the game was ended had to stop early because of arms and legs going to sleep. Sure enough the next day there was a small round bruise right over my spine. It went away fast enough and everything is fine now. But I'm going to absolutely shred those guys next time and that means no spine tingling allowed.

And more to the point - the Manta Ray might be a few bucks, but avoiding damage to my spine is priceless.

The front squat harness works great. Once I began using 225 lbs and above, its become a life saver. I too, had alot of shoulder issues. Now they are a thing of the past.

This piece of equipment used to be very expensive, but now I notice that the price has come way down. Hope it helps you guys out.

ive just started doing front squats... because of some pain in my traps when i do them...and also my skins seems to be getting REALLY REALLY thick over where the bar sits on my spine...and it feels weird..lol

anyway i like how i feel i can go lower and still keep my back alot straighter.

not got that heavy on them yet...learning the technique... about 35kg off my back squats

what kinda difference do you guys have between front and rear squats?

I've just started doing them for the 2nd time. The first time I did them, I had to stop due to shoulder issues. I used a olympic grip back then. Now I use the cross over grip and it seems to have helped my shoulders a lot more. The placement of the bar is slightly different, but a lot better.

Front squats really challenge your mid section and posture i fine from doing the lift. Its suppose to hit the quads more specifically then the back squat but the back squat hits more areas. I do both.

Those were all at 135 pounds - you want a weight where all the players think they can get through lhe deck. It's in my journal (link in my sig).

i have a manta ray for back squats, because my back is genetically really big compared to the rest of my body and the bar never sat right on me. i LOVE this manta ray, it spreads the bar out over about 6 inches, instead of it digging into my vertebrae. it did dig into my clavical a bit, but better than a single spot on my spine. ill be using some sort of pad for my clavical for now on.

i highly suggest this manta ray.
