View Full Version : Pre-Workout Intake
T_A_B Wed, November 9th, 2005, 10:17 PM Well Im very new this, havent done much working out. I do not have much equipment, just a couple dumbells. I plan to do pushups and different exercises with the dumbells to work my chest and arms.
Anyways, Im about to take a serving of some cheap creatine, a Powerbar - energy bar (Not as good as a regular protein bar but lots of nutrients), a high potency multi-vitamin tab, and lots of water.
I havent had much to eat which I realize is a mistake, but if I dont workout now I wont have time later tonight.
Also another concern with the creatine, I dont use the recommended amount of water, because it tastes like crap when I do. I just add a small amount of water (enough to dissolve the creatine) then down it, and drink a bunch of regular water afterwards. Is this ok?
Thanks for any help, Im just wondering if Im going about everything correctly.

Hello and good luck. I think what you are eating is fine, others may have some additional input. The way you are using creatine is ok. I just spoon it into my mouth and wash it down with water. This I believe is the recommended approach.
Hope you had a great work out.
T_A_B Wed, November 9th, 2005, 10:46 PM Well Im currently in the middle of it. Usually I can only do about 10 good pushups or less (Im well out of shape), but I took the creatine and everything about 15 min before I started, and did the pushups correctly with all the little breathing tips and other tips Ive heard, and I can really feel a good burn in my biceps, and my armpits for some strange reason.
Well I gotta go refill on water, and switch to the dumbells soon, Ill be here :).
T_A_B Wed, November 9th, 2005, 11:13 PM I think Im almost done with my workout, my arms are dead tired, Im going to get what few more pushups I can get and call it a night.
Another side question, does weed affect workouts or creatine or anything? Im a daily smoker and am wondering if it will interfere.

Shouldn't be a problem bro. Just remember to have a 12 oz can of Budweiser as a PWO drink. If you're in a cutting phase, have a Bud Light. :tucool:

That's a pretty good chaser ;)
Seriously , don't neglect your legs.....build that foundation now. My focus growing up was arms and abs. My chest and especially legs are behind the 8 ball. Start building that foundation. There's lots of leg exercises you can do with dumbells. Squats, squats with a bicep curl and press, hack squats, straight leg dead lift, lunges etc...

Dude, instead of wasting your money on weed invest in a bench, some weights, and some good lean cuts of meat!!!!
T_A_B Thu, November 10th, 2005, 03:43 PM Well I dont have room for a bench (although Id love to have one), but Im going to definatly invest in some better equipment. BTW whats a PWO?
Thanks for all of your help everyone!
Gordo Thu, November 10th, 2005, 04:09 PM PWO = Post Work Out
(recovery or after exercise nutrition)
15 minutes to digest a powerbar? It probaby didn't kick in till the end of your workout. Your Pre-Workout nutrition is more important that PostWorkOut. I'd suggest if you are actually eating something before your workout, give yourself a good 45 minutes for that to hit the blood stream.
If your PreWorkout protocol is a shake of some sort...then probably about 20 minutes should be okay.
I'd personally save your money on the powerbar and have a cup of brown rice or perhaps a bowl of oats before you workout...wait an hour and then have at 'er.
For the price of one powerbar you could almost buy a bag of rice that will go a lot further than one workout (And you avoid Sugar Alcohols and the other crap they put in there). Food for thought.
Oats plus a banana, apple, or blueberries....is WAAAY tastier than a powerbar and better for you.
Food for thought.
btimby Thu, November 10th, 2005, 04:11 PM PWO = post work out. You should take in some carbs post workout. Read the stickies in each of the forum sections. These will basically answer all the questions you have asked so far.
Weed affect motivation and judgement. It affects your body in many ways. I am sure it is not good for a fitness regimen.
jonnycashman Thu, November 10th, 2005, 07:24 PM Is it just me or does anyone else think supplementing with Creatine is a complete waste when your only exercise is 10 push-ups and some curls? If you are serious about getting into shape TAB, I suggest you go throught the stickies and do a little reading. I'm not going to comment on the weed as you already know the answer to that.
bradh Thu, November 10th, 2005, 07:47 PM A lot of people think supplements are some wonder drug. I myself still get stung with this stigma when labouring over different proteins and PWO nutrition. Some are good of course but it will always come down to hard work, including a decent eating (solid food) plan.
