View Full Version : Which component of nitrean makes it taste funky?

I just received an order of nitrean protein powder, after using ATW for the past few months. I enjoyed the three ATW flavors I tried, chocolate, vanilla and mint chocolate. I switched mainly because I wanted something more versatile nutrition-wise that I could use before bed as well.

So the point of this thread is that I'm trying to figure out what makes this stuff taste bad to me even though I liked the taste of ATW. I'm figuring it's either the hydrolyzed whey, casein or egg protein. I'm asking because it would be nice to know which ingredients to avoid in the future.

I haven't heard too many (any?) people complain about the taste, so I wouldn't know where to start looking. I've found Nitrean to have a great taste as well.

Do you hate the taste of pizza, ho-ho's, Mt. Dew, and Reece's PB Cups too? ;)

(It's probably the egg.)

I agree it isn't as tasty as ATW..but then it has more in it.. and it's not bad compared to some of the stuff I've tried like EAS Myoplex...YUK!!...

Actually, we have had only a couple of complaints on the flavoring since we have been in business. Most of our customers LOVE it and consider it to taste as good or better than anything on the market.

It is possible you got a defective batch. What flavor did you order? If you like, I could send a sample for you to compare against and if you feel you have a bad batch based upon that comparison I would be more than happy to send you a free replacement.

What have you been mixing it with? Try it blended in milk.

Peanut butter, oats, and brown sugar and cinnamon are all things that can turn it into an even tastier treat.

Nitrean tastes great, even with water :tucool: Yes it has that 'funky' taste, but I find it good ;)

I tried something different last night during PWO:

Chocolate Nitrean + Dextrose + BCAA Powder + Orange Creatine + Water

I like the taste. If you don't, and are using it before bed, try mixing with milk and PB. Fats slow the absorption of protein. It may improve the taste to your liking and slow absorption time which is what you want before bed.

As I posted in my original review of Nitrean, I think it has a slightly weird smell, but the taste is awesome. I'm actually out of it right now and my new order won't arrive for another day or two at least, which leaves me pining for the awesome chocolate goodness that is Nitrean. It is honestly one of the best parts of my day.

I think you should take Chris up on his offer and try out a free sample to see if you got a funky batch.:gl:

He did! I will send him a sample of both vanilla and chocolate. It could be that he just doesn't care for our vanilla. There is no one flavor which is universally loved (unfortunately).

Im not looking to get any free samples here, but I too thought something tasted a bit funky. I though it was just the egg protein, because I have never had egg protien before...and I can picture powdered egg tasting a bit strange.

I drink my chocolate with water most of the time, and put some natty pbutter in there sometime too. But I still taste that funky taste in there.

But Ive long since come to grips with eating food not for the flavor but for the nutritious content...so I'll keep-a-drinkin' it. And its not absolutly unbearable like some other protein poweders I've had before.

This is basically my philosophy. Performance over taste for protein powders. Fortunately, I think Nitrean is one of the better tasting ones, but if it was not, I would drink it anyway.

I guess I lost track of this thread. AtLarge did send me two samples which was very cool of them. I like the vanilla a lot better than the chocolate I bought. They both do have what seems to be an "eggy" taste, although I'm slowly getting used to it. I still wonder how much better nitrean would taste without the egg protein, though.

For me personally, Nitrean is the best tasting pro powder I've had in years. (Vanilla).

Most of the others are too damn sweet. Nitrean is just right.
