Hort Tue, November 8th, 2005, 06:44 PM Depends on your size and acticity level- most fitness buffs will tell you to get 128oz (one gallon) a day. Personally I do 1-1.5 daily. sc7389 Tue, November 8th, 2005, 07:04 PM If you ask me, I think you need to drink more water. It will be hard at first, but after a week or so you'll be able to drink a gallon a day if you space it out evenly. Water is important for processes that take place in your body, and for removal of waste. Masher Tue, November 8th, 2005, 07:11 PM No, 40oz (~1 litre) is definitely not enough unless you are an elf. Elves can get by on about 35oz per day. I would say 100oz (~2.5litre) minimum, and if you are doing any kind of exercise, then even more. TarSeal Tue, November 8th, 2005, 07:56 PM I shoot for 2 gallons per day, and easily hit it. I do pee alot though.:o sc7389 Tue, November 8th, 2005, 07:59 PM How often do you pee?! I get to around a gallon a day and I have to pee like every 1.5 hours. ;] TarSeal Tue, November 8th, 2005, 08:03 PM How often do you pee?! Usually pretty quick after a quart, which I usually drink all within 5-10 mins- 8x per day. sc7389 Tue, November 8th, 2005, 08:52 PM The peeing thing is pretty annoying, especially at night. I usually get up at least once to take a leak. ;] 1FastGTX Tue, November 8th, 2005, 09:32 PM I probably pee every 20-30 minutes in the middle of the day, seriously. Good thing I work at home. :D sc7389 Tue, November 8th, 2005, 09:36 PM Wow Chris, I'm not even going to ask how many times you get up to pee during the night. ;] 1FastGTX Tue, November 8th, 2005, 09:39 PM Wow Chris, I'm not even going to ask how many times you get up to pee during the night. ;] I taper the fluid intake (water, s/f kool-aid, crystal lite, shakes) down towards the end of the day. If I don't, I'd be up all night. :) Hort Tue, November 8th, 2005, 10:20 PM I taper the fluid intake (water, s/f kool-aid, crystal lite, shakes) down towards the end of the day. If I don't, I'd be up all night. :) Me too- most fluids in no later than 8p... even then... I'm up around 2:30a to hit the bathroom.... JK2005 Wed, November 9th, 2005, 12:51 AM I have to admit that drionking a gallon of water a day is something I find really tough to maintain. On most days I can drink 2-3 litres max. That's less than a gallon. Bluestreak Wed, November 9th, 2005, 08:58 AM I taper the fluid intake (water, s/f kool-aid, crystal lite, shakes) down towards the end of the day. If I don't, I'd be up all night. :) Agreed. My water intake is nearly completed for the day by the time I leave the office at 5~6pm - I drink one bottle per hour at 18-ozs. per bottle. That's usually around 180-ozs. per day. In addition to that, I have one or two bottles of water while I'm at home at night, and I never have to wake up during the night for relief. I believe cold water to be one of the single most important things I do for my body every day. Whoever gets these kidneys when I'm done with them is getting one clean set of filters. -R TarSeal Wed, November 9th, 2005, 09:15 AM One of the kids is always waking me up at some ungodly hour of the night anyway, so I don't mind a wee hour pee. My water consumption continues right up until 10-11pm, that's how I can get in 2 gals. Skoorb Wed, November 9th, 2005, 10:30 AM Don't forget to include coffee and cola in the numbers. It was thought, and is still by many, that the caffeine in these drinks has a diuretic effect and can have a net loss of fluids, or at least a break even or something, but I was recently just a couple of days ago that the military, interested in stimulants like caffeine, did a study and found that urine produced was the same in participants high on caffeine and those low on it, as long as fluid and activity consumption were the same. Now, it may have somewhat of an effect and who knows if it's messing things up to a degree, but the article notably reminded us that we all know people who seem to drink nothing but soda or coffee and they aren't dying. I know a lot of endurance athletes do suck down some caffeine before an event and it's a proven performance enhancer, even though loss of fluids is a proven performance detractor, but they do it anyway. Not yet... these things take time.:d_frown: |
