I've come across a situation for the past 3 weeks. Those who have seen me around are proably familar with what I've been going through. Three weeks ago I took a week off to get over a plateau and allow my muscles to repair. When I was suppose to come back I got the Flu (f**k the flu:mad: ).

During this time I ate around 3000 calories a day to rev up my metabolism and prepare a high shock factor for my body when I came back. I recently cut back down to 2000.

My question is:
Is it possible to lose fat by cutting down on calories and not exercising, because until I get my strength back this seems to be the only option?

Mmm, yes. But the chance of losing muscle is increased. Probably not a big issue if it's a short time. But you'd probably still be better off eatinga at maintenance and resting and letting your body heal until you can train again.

For the short term, restricting calories is fine to lose weight. You don't want to do this long term. As mentioned, you can lose muscle mass. More importantly, however, research suggests that diet impacts more of your internal fat and exercise impacts more of your subcutaneous fat (underneath the skin). This is why most people who just diet end up smaller but still with a lot of flab. You don't see the Jareds and a lot of the Atkins-only (i.e. followed Atkins but without exercise) posing with their shirts off because of the remaining fat. On the other hand, adding exercise can help burn that subcutaneous fat while your nutrition burns the visceral/internal fat.

However, I"ve had many clients who got sick or were in situations that they've had to go 2 - 3 weeks or longer without exercise, and it's nutrition that helped them maintain or continue to lose through that period.

id assume yes, but lifting would be considered exercise no? even without regular "scheduled" cardio.
