Hi girls and guys!
What do you do when you have that once in a month (or more often) chocolate craving, go to a party being served all kinds of good stuff you aren't supposed to eat, wants to take more than the one glass of weekly wine (or can of beer),or just have that very hungry day?
I'd sure like to know, since I do experience the feeling of loosing all my "sense" according to food once in a while. It seems like most of you have a very good self disipline. How do you get there??
Thanks!

First off I'm a male, I just read every board here. lol.... I usually feel so guilty when I eat bad that I tend to just stick to a good diet. Most of the time I eat great all week and even on the weekend. But on the weekend I usually will have a few drinks. If I keep my cal's at their normal level (1700-2100) I can afford to cheat (2000-2400) one or two nights on the weekend without going overboard and be alright. My family and friends all eat really bad so I know the pressure you are going through. Its tough not to eat something that is right in front of you. What I do is if I'm going somewhere where I know bad food is I eat something healthy on the way to fill me up and remind me not to eat the bad food. Maybe even a protein bar so its a treat in a way (chocolate). Eating good does not mean eating gross food. I have learned to cook more now and often go to the food network website for ideas.

good luck, I know its hard but try to invision what you will look like b4 summer!

You don't have to restrict yourself 100% to get results. I allow myself something naughty once a week. But I do not go overboard, I enjoy in moderation. I go to the bars alot to shoot pool and hang out with friends, but I have the self-control to only drink water.(Which makes me a regular target for being the DD!) Every other week I'll allow myself a Guinness or two though. You have to be the judge of your diet. If you're really eating clean, one simple indulgement now and then won't hurt, it's when you are doing it everyday that will. Go ahead and have a slice of chocolate cake, just don't eat the whole thing!!

I know what you mean about the chocolate craving every month! I'm not one for sweets ordinarily, but for a few days every month I crave chocolate like a wolf craves raw meat. Grrrr! I find that if I place a small square in my mouth and suck on it until it melts away completely, that helps me satisfy the craving without consuming a lot of it. Hope this advice is helpful. It works for any bad food - if you slow down and really "experience" every bite of your cheat food, it will take fewer mouthfuls to satisfy the urge you are having.

Could it be that us women are more easily tempted (foodwise) that you guys? I actually believe so... But Jono, if you can do it, so can I!! You kicked my a** - in the right direction, thank you! :tu:

In a different matter, a friend of mine told me to "change the focus" (from the bad that I have trouble with gaining, to the good, what I am able to achieve). It surely can be used in this setting, too.

Thanks for all your support and good advice, may be you'll se me in my bikini some day - hehe!

Lately I have actually been craving fatty type things when PMS, like I want to eat too much nut butter..

I guess I might be among the crazy, but I always take a meal with me where ever I go, even to parties.. My friends/family think i am nuts, but i not willing to sacrifice my long term goals :D

Lisa that link for the chocolates look really good! Just yesterday I was thinking why isnt there a low carb/low fat/ sf candy. I really wish they would start using other sweetners other than something with the "itols" in them.. Dont really care for the stomach issues.. Dh cant even tolerate a small piece .

I find that it is usually possible to feed a certain type of craving with good clean healthy food. And eventually, you will crave that clean food, instead of the fatty, refined stuff. I had this for breakfast this morning and I can't wait to have it again it was so darn good:

1 Serving Brown Rice Cereal (you can always sub oats)
1 Scoop Chocolate Protein Powder (I use ATW)
1 T. Natty PB mixed in

HEAVEN!

I have a cheat day once a week - have been doing this ever since the start of my diet. I will cut it out if it ever starts to be a problem, but so far so good. During my 'weight loss' phase I cut it out or just down to one meal if weight loss slowed.

That said, a nice big bowl of oats and whey or a protein pancake will usually cut down the cravings. I even have one of these for breakfast on my cheat day. :)

Watch our for sugarfree chocolate. I can't do that one. It tends to have a laxative effect on a lot of people. :p

I find that my 10:00 PM whey drink is a must, and it helps that it's chocolate :D . Two things totally make me crave hard - no meal at 10 PM for a day or two, and mixing my protein with water instead of milk. Now I know that milk is not really that great to mix with the protein during the day but if I don't mix it that way I end up F A M I S H E D for the whole rest of the day. As long as I have the 10 PM meal every night and mix my protein with skim milk, I could stand waist deep in godiva chocolate and not want a bite.
