Cleaning out my shaker bottle.

View Full Version : What you hate most about fitness? wh0rume Mon, November 7th, 2005, 10:19 AM Cleaning out my shaker bottle. Chopaholic Mon, November 7th, 2005, 10:30 AM cooking my lunches on a Sunday evening. it just makes the whole weekend feel that much shorter. Bluestreak Mon, November 7th, 2005, 10:34 AM 1.) The continuous food prep. I hate making bulk food/meal portions too early; I prefer freshly cooked meals. Therefore I'm cooking basically every other day for the subsequent 48 hours. I hate cooking. 2.) The constant vigilance. If I let up for a week, I know it in the way I feel, and in some cases when I slack badly, I know about it in the mirror. I wish I could take time off more often, but with this body and these genetics... I just can't. -R karatetricker Mon, November 7th, 2005, 10:38 AM All the horrendous information out there. And for myself, CARDIO! John Stone Mon, November 7th, 2005, 10:52 AM ...when my workout is over. :( wh0rume Mon, November 7th, 2005, 10:57 AM yeah, i should have said that instead - about sunday food prep. cooking 2 pans of chicken, weighing it out, putting it into ziplock bags, cooking pasta, cooking brown rice... URG. i'm also starting to dread cooking eggs in the morning. ...if only i could work at home like john stone... ;) michael2938 Mon, November 7th, 2005, 11:03 AM Trying to include healthy eating habits during events such as parties, social gatherings, etc. when everybody else is eating unhealthy. People here often say that once they start eating clean for a while, fast food (unhealthy food in general) doesn't taste as good. I've yet to experience this. Mike Cziffra Mon, November 7th, 2005, 11:32 AM Seeing people complaining about their lard while munching doughnuts and realizing I was one of them just two years ago. John Stone Mon, November 7th, 2005, 11:53 AM ...if only i could work at home like john stone... ;)At least I actually do some work. Nutrition confusion and mistakes that I make. 2. Getting up and having to push myself into and through the discomfort within 20 minutes of waking up. It's fine once you get going, but until you get fully engaged, it can be hard. That said, it's well worth it. . . But there is! It's called The American Center Of Overeating And Living A Sedentary Lifestyle -- no DOMS there. ;) jeremya Mon, November 7th, 2005, 02:16 PM I agree with everyone, but the top 5 things I hate are: 1) Cleaning my stupid George Foreman grill (I love the thing, but it's way to big for one persons use. I saw a small one to make 1 or 2 chicken breasts, but I figured why spend the $30 I already have one. Maybe for X-mas.) 2) Cleaning the stupid shaker bottle. (I have wide hands so I always feel like I am about to cut myself trying to clean the inside of it.) 3) The constant cooking, cleaning, shopping/ordering, repackaging, etc involved with feeding myself 6 clean meals a day. I guess this covers the first two, but I also find myself spending a lot of time looking over the store circulars that come in the mail looking for sales. 4) Trying to understand the tons of information and theories that seem to surround nutrition, exercise, and weight loss. 5) Feeling stupid when the big ripped guys look at me like I have three heads when I walk my fat self in to the free weights area of the gym. (I guess I feel intimidated because I am not always sure what I am doing is right. Also at my gym there is slight language barrier for me since the closest gym to me is smack dab in the middle of a predominately Spanish speaking neighborhood. Either way I just need to build some more confidence and possibly get some instruction on how to use some of the free weight equipment.) -- Jeremy sc7389 Mon, November 7th, 2005, 02:22 PM Doing cardio every day. TarSeal Mon, November 7th, 2005, 03:05 PM Not being able to drink beer at will. 1FastGTX Mon, November 7th, 2005, 04:00 PM Hearing "you must work out for 5 hours every day." zenpharaohs Mon, November 7th, 2005, 04:18 PM ...when my workout is over. :( No that part is great for me. I feel great after a workout until at least the next morning. The worst part for me is usually just before a workout especially if I didn't get enough calories. Once I get going, then aerobic metabolism fixes everything. airforcePTL Mon, November 7th, 2005, 04:48 PM 1. Forcing myself to eat like a cow when bulking. 2. Forcing myself NOT to eat like a cow when cutting. jsbrook Mon, November 7th, 2005, 05:07 PM Not so much hate, but finding the right balance between it and other aspects of life. never2old Mon, November 7th, 2005, 06:13 PM Ditto several already shared: - sorting through the "infomania" - cleaning the Foreman grill - meal planning (don't anyone dare ask me if I even do it!) In my case: - fear of lifting weights improperly and getting hurt - life's little inducements and mandates to vary bedtimes - we the fit NEED our routines! - KNOWING that I just forgot - or worse, neglected - to hydrate adequately I especially like this thread. It helps me to know what others more successful than myself struggle with. So I feel less "out there all alone." A little more hopeful. A little more normal. A little less nuts. Thanks to all. Ah, yes! I forgot about that one. I usually leave the last plate or two on the bar or press machine (only machine I really use). Partly out of laziness and fatigue and I guess partly out of the [mistaken?] assumption that everybody can lift that or at least take it off themselves without much bother. Is that bad protocal? jsbrook Mon, November 7th, 2005, 10:14 PM 1. Cleaning out my shaker bottle. 2. Cleaning the George Foreman Grill (I have the tiny one too!) 3. Not being able to eat chocolate, chocolate, and more chocolate on a daily basis and without gaining an ounce of weight ;) Thinking about food can get annoying. I prefer it most when I'm in auto-pilot mode and I just eat healthy, clean food for hunger. This happens during maintenance. For leaning out or bulking I need to count more carefully. What about the little old ladys? chicanerous Tue, November 8th, 2005, 12:10 AM I haven't used a machine in forever, but, for leg machines, I'll strip all the weight off except for the last pair of 45's. I think that's reasonable for the gyms I've worked out in. Any other exercise apparatus, however, you should definitely strip all the plates off. Removing weight is definitely one of the worst parts of fitness. And, I guess you could take that to mean bodyweight as well. (Conversely, who doesn't love adding weight?) 1FastGTX Tue, November 8th, 2005, 12:45 AM   I knew that was comin'.:claplow: :claplow: :D Like you weren't thinking it!!! Besides that cardio (what am i talking about i don't do it lol) and getting this nutrition down. My favorvite - Training Heavy! and learning new methods and excercises. T_A_B Tue, November 8th, 2005, 01:04 AM What I hate most about fitness? All the side work I didn't realized played such a big part. Setting time out of each day, getting the equipment available, getting motivated, and of course having to worry about each thing you eat. Im VERY new at this and starting very slow . Oh chris, you said you had lots of extra shaker bottles? Id love to have one, I have like two or 3 bucks on paypal I can hand over lol, or if you request more Im sure I can work something out. BTW these are some great forums and I love your community here! Lots of great info. 1FastGTX Tue, November 8th, 2005, 01:09 AM bodybuilding.com sells shaker bottles for under $2.00 each! I always get at least 1 or 2 with every order. (They'll break and leak after a while.) With that said, Chris if you're GIVING them away and paying for shipping I'll PM you my address. doordude42 Tue, November 8th, 2005, 01:10 AM I hate when guys ask me what I hate!:D JoeSchmo Tue, November 8th, 2005, 01:32 AM Two things really piss me off to no end; 1) When I run out of space on the olympic bar for all the 45's I need. 2) When the Olympic bar bends and breaks in half under the weight when I am doing warm-up sets on curls. I hate it when that happens. :D Other things: Not being able to eat anything I want whenever I want. Injuries that interrupt my routine. I don't get them that often, but when I do, it sucks. Trying to fit my workout to my lame-ass gym hours (especially in the summer). Getting annoyed when my gym closes for 3 weeks during the summer. doordude42 Tue, November 8th, 2005, 07:27 AM 2) When the Olympic bar bends and breaks in half under the weight when I am doing warm-up sets on curls. I hate it when that happens. . Yeah, especially when the bar snaps up and hits you under the chin!!!! I HATE THAT!!!!!:D HevyMetal Tue, November 8th, 2005, 03:33 PM Don't get this thing about shaker bottles...when I'm around the house I use an ordinary glass. Mixes in about 30 seconds. Chug takes about 5 seconds. Washing the glass takes about 20 seconds. Total elapsed time= 55 seconds. I've tried umpteen different pro powders...have never run into one yet that clumps on an unmixable level. Have never used shaker bottles ever. I take the powder with me to work in a Zip-lock container. Mix it into a glass I have there. When you bring your shaker bottle home, fill it with water and let it stand for 15 minutes. Then using the correct size bottle brush should take care of it in no time flat. Or you can let it stand 'till LOST is finished and do it then:d_rolleye Julz Tue, November 8th, 2005, 04:33 PM 1) Doing all the dishes 2) Getting up at 4am during the week if I want to do fasted cardio 3) If unexpected events cause me to miss a day, or if my schedule gets pushed around so I have to go to the gym during peak hours (that makes me reeeeeeeeeeeeal pissy) Butterflyer Tue, November 8th, 2005, 04:51 PM Nothing I hate, just mildly dislike... a) Taking those 45 lb. plates off from the squat bar which is set above my shoulder height. Before I even get to work out. Be nice to us small people! b) Washing all those dishes. For a), though, I get to enjoy righteous indignation if I really feel like it. And from b) I have developed much self-discipline! I resent this self-discipline, but I hear it's good for me. ;) 1FastGTX Tue, November 8th, 2005, 05:09 PM I hate what happened last night... A local World's Gym closed the doors abruptly on all the members. They basically said "in two days your gym memberships will transfer to Lifestyle Fitness. If you live more than 5 miles away from Lifestyle, your contract is canceled." (Yes, many members lost money, don't ask me, it's crazy.) So since my gym is close to this World's we just got a huge amount of new members. Last night I walk in at 7:30 pumped and ready for a crazy leg day. I had my meals all structured and good yesterday, had my preworkout carb meal, and was ready to rock and roll. I get to the gym and it's packed. I wait for the squat rack for 10 minutes, 20 minutes... "maybe I'll start with Leg Press." Taken also. I was forced to do cardio last night, which totally sucked cause my meals yesterday were structured for a weightlifting day. I'm going to have to find a new time to work out. By about 8:45 the place was not crowded anymore, so I'll probably go later, I guess. jeremya Tue, November 8th, 2005, 05:31 PM Yeah like it or not I usually go to the gym around 9pm on lifting days and I save the heavy lifting for Friday nights. Also, the many, many trips to the restroom required with so much water intake.
