View Full Version : Is My BF% at a Good Level?
dist0rted~ Sun, November 6th, 2005, 10:57 PM Ok, I'm not too sure if my current BF% is a little high for my weight/height/waist size (34 pants size). As it says in my sig, I'm at 182LBS @ 15.9% (I'm also 6'1"). I've heard that ~10% is when you start seeing a much more definitive body - Six pack and such if you are doing enough reps/weights. But, being 6% away from 10%, I still am a bit... jiggly . Is this normal? Or do I need to start doing some more lifting during the week?
Thanks, all

Which brings me to a point. There is NO guarantee that 10% BF = visible abs. People tend to think (mostly due to misinformation) that once they approach 10% they will "magically" wake up one morning with a six pack. Sorry folks, that's not the way it works. There are just too many contributing factors involved. Genetics, muscle developement, fat distribution to mention a few. As discussed in another thread, truly visible abs are attained when BF% dips into single digits. This unfortunately is the time when many people give up or simply settle with the results they've achieved blaming genetics for their shortcomings.
guava Mon, November 7th, 2005, 09:19 AM Most importantly, you don't know your true body fat percentage unless you've been weighed underwater. Online charts can give an estimate that can be off by more than 5%, bathroom scales are quite often accurate to within about 3%. A good measurement by a trained person with calipers might be off by about 2%. You shouldn't go by the numbers; you should go by the mirror. 16% is a healthy body fat percentage, but if you're not happy, you can strive to go lower.
