View Full Version : Help - Just discovered Diet A&W Rootbeer
woeisemma Thu, March 11th, 2004, 11:07 PM It tastes so good OMG. Just like regular rootbeer..no!!! I've been drinking 3 cans a day of Diet Rootbeer for a week now! I feel guilty when I drink more than 1 can..but it tastes so good and it's 0 calories and 0 carbs..does Diet pop harm your bones like regular pop does? After this case I'm gonna go a week without it.
jmcalla Thu, March 11th, 2004, 11:24 PM I have read in Men's Health that two cans of soda per day should be the limit. I know the artifical sweeteners that are in the soda's are not good either, although it is very tempting with no calories/carbs.
--D-- Thu, March 11th, 2004, 11:25 PM As long as you are getting adequate amounts of calcium it's not going to damage your bones.

Fudgam Thu, March 11th, 2004, 11:35 PM Im guessing whatever the daily requirement is for you would be raised greatly to compensate for the phosphoric acid. So your personal RDA would be raised. Same feelings when it comes to the artificial sweeteners as jmcalla.

Read the second link I posted. There is much more phosphorus in the food you eat than there is in soda. The real problem of drinking too much soda is that it tends to displace milk (calcium) from your diet.

I tried a week without the pop...I felt like poo....my body needs the caffeine. I drink two cans of Diet Wild Cherry Pepsi a dayhttp://www.stupid-boy.com/smilies/contrib/blackeye/Monkey_wink.gif
guava Fri, March 12th, 2004, 09:28 AM Don't fight it. Take away my Diet Coke, and I'll start eating brownies.
I drink probably the equivalent of three cans of Diet Coke a day. But it's better than for me than Coke or brownies, so, oh well. Today, I made a big pitcher of Strawberry Orange Banana Crystal Light instead.
jtsizzly Fri, March 12th, 2004, 11:33 AM I'd drink coffee over any diet soda any day of the week. Being a coop living in a dorm... I've grown to love black coffee. Correct me if Im wrong, but coffee is better for you than diet coke. Not sure how many cals coffee has, but im pretty sure its low when its black
TheRyanator Fri, March 12th, 2004, 11:45 AM This is the site that I use to figure approximate calories in food. It says that black coffee (look for "coffee brewed") has no calories. Thus you are just getting the caffeine kick when you drink it and not caloric value. This is good as I see it, due the fact that you get a little metabolic boost, without calories that you have to burn off. :D

Mahdimael Fri, March 12th, 2004, 01:32 PM The Diet Barq's stuff is okay, and it doesn't have a ton of sodium in it, either, I don't think
jtsizzly Fri, March 12th, 2004, 04:51 PM Better in what respect?
Better in that I am not ingesting manufactured sweeteners when I drink coffee.
karatetricker Fri, March 12th, 2004, 05:07 PM Coffee = Natural
Soda = Processed with artificial ingredients
I drink both, sparingly, but if I had to say one was better than the other, I'd assume Coffee is as anything natural is better than processed.
--D-- Fri, March 12th, 2004, 06:33 PM Are artificial sweeteners bad for you or are you worried about unknown, possible side effects?
karatetricker Fri, March 12th, 2004, 08:22 PM I don't know if they're bad. I sure hope not, I do consume a nice amount of them in order to keep calories down.
I do however recall all through life being told that all these artificial sweeteners and what not can lead to cancer or other harmful illnesses. How true is it? No idea. Someone care to look it up? I'm too lazy right now.
I especially remember this being said about Nutrasweet. Perhaps things have changed?
Pico Fri, March 12th, 2004, 09:36 PM when they do those tests for cancer, they inject mice with a large amount, mice only live for a short time. so if you compare the mouse's life to yours and also compare the amount he was given to how much you would need to consume. Im sure the amount is very high. If you have cancer in the family, it is probably best to limit yourself the best you can. If not then consume, but in moderation. Im not a doctor just stating what I know and have seen/heard/etc
I know nutrasweet gives me headaches, and many other people. So, if you are getting headaches or any other negative effects, stop consuming the sugar.

I remember it being saccharin that caused cancer. When I was little I was scared to brush my teeth with crest sparkles because my brother told me I would get cancer if I did. I think I read that it causes cancer in laboratory rats, but I don't know if it has been proven to cause cancer in humans (yet anyway). I'll research it later tonight.
Racuerex Sat, March 13th, 2004, 04:29 AM water is the way to go :)
Evil Hx Coupe Sat, March 13th, 2004, 04:58 AM I cant live without diet mountain dew...
I drink a 20oz almost everyday.
Better than the 6-8 20oz of regular mountain dew I used to drink daily before I decided to change my diet.
