This is tricky. I've been sick for the past 3 days, and i finally went to the hospital this morning. Strep is negative, mono is negative, so all in all i'm stuck. This thread mostly pertains to my diet durring these days of awful feelings.

At this point i can hardly eat anything solid... infact when i do it, I strongly regret it. Trying to get down steak and chicken just isn't worth the pain at this point. I've just been eating soup, whey, kashi, and well fast food (no mcdonalds or anything, but just places that are quick and easy). Luckly I haven't lost any weight (currently bulking) because i've been eating enough. How should I deal with this? My throat is getting worse, so I don't see myself eating very much more today. Should I go as far as to stuff my face with more whey?

Hopefully I'll get better soon (this might have been better suited in nutrition but i wasn't sure)

When you're sick like that, worry about 1 thing. Getting healthy.

After that, worry about your diet and fitness goals.

Eat what you can, do your best to eat more, but if you can't, don't stress about it. You'll just prolong your illness.

Eat soup.

Yeah, diet and exercise take a back seat when you're sick. Getting healthy takes shotgun. I find if I'm sick but not immobile I will try to do some light exercising and it makes me feel a heck of a lot better.

yeah i understand all of that, and I really am putting fitness on the back burner. The problem is... my willpower is nonexistent. I feel like i'm using my sickness to eat whatever I want. Hell I KNOW i'm doing it. I don't like it at all because I never have problems with choosing the right foods, and i havent for 2 years. It's frustrating.

When I'm sick, I do what it takes to get well. Fitness gains are slow enough that a few days or even a couple weeks of recuperating aren't significant to me.

Hey if you got two years in the bank for good eating now you might need to write a check on that account for some chicken soup.

yah bro, its tough eating healthy when you're sick cuz if you're like me (and by that i mean a COMPLETE AND TOTAL WUSS) when you're sick, i dont care about anything except my own misery.

get a good friend to go out and buy you some choice groceries...if all you have around u is good stuff that's all you're going to eat.

Soup, OJ, vitamins, SLEEP!!

also remember that crap food you're scarfing isnt helping your body fight off the germs, its only making it worse AND taking away some of that hard work you put in already...viscious cycle

How? @*$( it! A few days won't do anything. Think how many workouts it takes to put on muscle or how many consecutive days of good dieting to get proper results...it's kind of the same way when you don't lift weights or eat like crap for a few days; results won't start to hemorrhage from your body. I wouldn't worry about it. It sucks to miss a work out, but even if you're on your ass for a week drinking coca cola, it won't take all that long to get back on your feet once you get back at it.

I often try to workout through a sickness, but I don't believe it's really going to help it go away any faster (probably slower, if anything), even if I've machoistically claimed otherwise, before ;)

I sort of know how you feel, I'm battling a bug right now that is causing all sorts or muscle joint and deep muscle pain (ie: it hurts when I breathe).
Fortunately it's not screwing with my appetite. Stick to softer easy to digest foods like oats, cottage cheese, rice, eggs, whey, yoghurt etc....

errr, fast food when you're sick is not the best idea...

Don't worry about the lifting....the week off might be nice.
This much I can tell you, DO NOT LIFT with muscle pain....bad idea.

For me I'm on a bulk too, so during my inactivity, I've just dropped back to maintenance. For many people that just means no PWO shake.

REST lots and lots of REST/

cheers mate :)
