I was practising serving last night for about an hour on the tennis court, quite early on I got a searing pain in my bicep, but it was only momentarily, so I carried on. There was a bit of pain still but nothing to make me stop. This morning I can't straighten out my arm and it's very tender to touch on the bicep and even in the tricep area... I think it looks like its starting to bruise?

I will go to the Dr's if it doesn't get better, but has anyone had anything similar. I'm hoping I haven't done any 'longer' term damage as far as I won't be able to train :(

If you have discoloration, you may have suffered a tear. I would see a dr. asap. Good luck

Mastover, i'm asking cause I don't know. Would a torn or pulled bi effect his tri as far as pain? Again, I really have no idea.

Absolutely, since the brachialis and tricep share the Ulna as the insertion point.

I agree, any bruising is most likely a result of some tearing. How much flexion of your arm do you have? Pain flexing the bicep, or say curling a (light) weight, soup can, ect?

Pain with extension is either because of your tricep being sore, or bicep tightening up so much (which it does when muscle is injuried) that you can't loosen it.

I don't mean to trump you mastover, but the brachialis attaches at the ulnar tuberosity, but the triceps actually attaches at the olecranon process (elbow). :tu: At any rate, the two could be related. Another possibility may be you extended your arm so fast/hard while serving that it damaged your bicep (and that fast action shocked your tricep as well.)

I would see a doc. if possible.

Darn, no wonder I always failed the anatomy section in all my personal training coarses LOL

In any event, the two are in very close proximity. I've gone through a bicep tear with discoloration, along with pain on the lateral side of the tricep. The good news is not all tears require surgery. Mine was able to fully heal without. Visteon should still check with the doc for proper diagnosis.

Mastover, sounds like you did a number on your arm. What was your mechanism for the injury?

Deadlifting using an over/under grip. I still deadlift but only go with a double overhand grip.
