I recently switched to a two day split from a full body weight workout. On Monday, as part of my workout I did dumbell squats and dumbell lunges and obviously overdid it.

Tuesday I did cardio (elliptical), and Wednesday did the other half of the split (tris, chest, abs and calves).

Up until today I was seriously suffering when I stood up, sat down or walked up/down stairs i.e. it was grab on to the wash basin to lower myself down to the toilet kinda thing.

My question is, my quads still hurt and I'm supposed to do cardio (elliptical) today, and the squats and lunges tomorrow, should I:

1) Miss cardio today to let my quads recover and do lunges/squats tomorrow
2) Do cardio today, and don't do the lunges/squats tomorrow
3) Do neither
4) Stop being such a pansy and do cardio today and the lunges/squats tomorrow.

Cheers,

Alistair

What usually happens, after like 10 minutes on the elliptical you will feel like you've "walked it off". Sometimes I push myself a little too hard while squatting and the next few days I feel like I can barely walk up the stairs. It all goes away after I do cardio. Probably because I stretch out the legs.

:D
You're feeling sore because you changed your routine and your body was not used it.

Make sure you are constantly stretching, and trying to flush the lactic out of your muscles. If you do a good stretch a few times during the day (hold for at least 30 seconds each time) and as well before you do squats again, you should be good to go for the leg workout. As SC said, your body is just getting used to this new workout. This won't be happening in a couple weeks.

I am feeling the same thing. I just started my new workout yesterday, and did some various squats @ ranges I had not done before so I'm very sore. But I'm stretching regularly, and am already coming around.

What is your cool down like? How about some cardio at the end of the workout to flush out the muscles you just worked?
