Fantastic Voyage (http://www.fantastic-voyage.net/) Skoorb Wed, October 26th, 2005, 09:24 PM Is this the nut who says we can live to 1000 years, possibly in the lifetime of some of us? I know medical science is helping our longevity, but I would guess that we're decellerating the pace that our longevity is going up; I'm sure the longevity of people in 1950 was a lot less than those in 1980, but 1980 probably not that much less than people now. Of course, 2/3 of the population, overweight and not interested in maintaining their own health, need not even think about living past 90, let alone 1000. chicanerous Wed, October 26th, 2005, 10:12 PM I think excessive bodily longevity is still quite a few generations away, but I think my generation may possibly witness the "preserved" mind (download into a computer type idea). I've read that, though we do have all the individual advances to drastically prolong a body's lifetime, we don't have the methods to use all these advances together to achieve this goal. I think this final combination is going to be the longest and hardest part. I know I'm hoping that I'll live at least until 2100. ;) 2900 -- yah right! Though if I can amass a large enough fortune, by the end of my life, I may be able to download my brain and then wait for that young strapping cyborg body to be produced! :p Skoorb Thu, October 27th, 2005, 07:09 AM I think excessive bodily longevity is still quite a few generations away, but I think my generation may possibly witness the "preserved" mind (download into a computer type idea). I'd definitely not download jack crap into a computer or cryogenically freeze a darn thing! |
