I posted a thread about this in the Injuries forum, but only got a couple of responses.

Long story short I was in a dirt bike accident and landed on my head and shoulder. Most of the pain has gone away in my shoulder, I have full ROM in my shoulder now although I have to move it very slowly, and I can tell I'm not anywhere near full strength in it.

So, I know that you, John, had shoulder issues, and I wanted your personal advice on what you think is the best way to rehab my shoulder so that I can start lifting again.

Thanks!

Thanks!Shoulder injuries are no joke. IMO you need to see a doctor and see what the doctor says. If you are interested, my ordeal has been well-documented here on the forums and also on my main site, but that doesn't mean you should follow the same path.

Good luck!

I agree, the doctor has the best vantage point to determine what is wrong with your shoulder. He will then most likely refer to you to a physiotherapist for rehabilitation exercises. I can give you a few and you can get heaps off the net, but I'm not qualified - and it's better to find out what is wrong first.

Going to the doctor is all fine and great if you have insurance. I don't... and I can't afford to go to a doctor.

Guess it'll heal up when it heals up.

I don't think I'd even be on the road to recovery now (after 4 months) without a doctor + physio.

So - my advice would be rest as much as possible, ice and if it doesn't improve in 2-3 week timespans then you might just have to suck up the expense.

I would lay off any rehab until the pain is gone, or very nearly gone. Then you might try some common ROM and/or rotator cuff type stuff. If it hurts at all, stop. If it is sore the next day, stop.

I've been able to 'push' my exercises a bit so I feel slightly sore the next day - but I'm doing it under the direction of my physio and we have talked extensively about what is appropriate and what is too much.

I would take any shoulder injury seriously enough now, that I would not even worry if I had to take several months off for an injury to completely heal - better than fucking it up, needing surgery etc...
