View Full Version : Overworking my Legs with Cardio?

For the first ten weeks of my program I was doing a "Full Body" workout 3 times/week and cardio 3 times/week. I have recently learned that excercising one muscle/week seems to be the concensus for bulking and toning....and it makes sense to me now, as it allows recovery time, etc, so that's what I'm gonna do now.

My bicycle is my primary form of cardio. (I ride it stationary (with a cool Minoura trainer I have and I ride it outside too) Right now I can do a steady 155BPM and max out at 168BPM for like 15 seconds max...I have found I can reach this heartrate at several levels of resistance.

Should I use the lowest (fastest pedaling) resistance so as to save my leg muscles for weight day?

I know bicycling excercises my glutes like hell, I can feel them burning.

In other words I can't see a way around excersising my glutes 4 times/week...?

I think part of my problem is that my legs are still very weak and skinny. In my first few weeks, and still to a point, my legs get tired before I get winded and reach my max heartrate. :o I think once my legs develop a little more this should reverse?

What do you think?

Thx a Lot,
