Hey guys. I've been reading in the background since these forums were put up, and I'm going to go to the gym tomorrow for the first time in ages. Last year, I lost some weight (from 204lb to 182lb and back to 188lb over Christmas) and I want to get into shape. I'm 21 year old, 5' 9", male. I am making a commitment to work out every day except Sunday, and I'm not particularly looking to bulk up. I just want some definition to my body and to (obviously) lose the fat. Abs would be nice, but not essential. When I used to go to the gym, I had a plan but this was geared towards working out every second day, so included CV exercises with weights. I wondered if you would be able to give me advice for daily exercise. Perhaps I should do only CV one day and only weights the next (exception of warm-up etc of course)? Or should I work on the top half of my body one day and bottom half the next?

Thanks for any advice you can give me. :bb:

I'm planning on alternating between cardio and weight lifting. Haven't started the program yet, so I can't speak out of my own experience.. However, if I recall correctly, John's doing the alternating thing, so I guess it works ;)

hey mate,

dont workout everyday with weights thats for sure, youd be overtraining , id recommend maybe a 3 day split for weights and as for cardio, when your doing weights you are burning calories anyway and some of your fat will be turned into muscle eventually etc,

But, i wouldnt recommend going to the gym everyday for the main reason being that youd get sick of it after so many weeks/mths and endup not wanting to go to the gym anymore!

Try doing HIIT if you want to do cv, and as for when, you could do it on your off days as you'd be in and out within 15mins.

Good luck

Mark

Thanks for yer help guys. I've opted for splitting the body into 3 - chest/back, legs/abs, shoulders/arms. I know you say that I'll get bored with the gym Mark, but I'm going to go every day except Sunday because I get really bored on the treadmill etc. If I do a shorter workout but very often, I won't get bored. I wouldn't be overtraining the muscles because each muscle group will have at least 2 days to recover. Right - off to the gym! :D
