Hi I am 16 years old weighting 189lbs. I started my cutting program 3 weeks ago and weight in at 194lbs. I am just wondering if I am training too much.... Tuesday Jog 4 miles and play football match for 1 hour, Wednsday jog 4 miles, Friday jog 4 miles, and on saturday jog 4 miles. My goal is 165lbs. My eating habit I started three days ago is..... at 8:15am I have 2 rice cake with peanut butter(200kcal) 10:45am Banana and plum(180kcal) 1:15pm Chicken salad(325kcal) 4:30 soup(200kcal) Dinner 6:30 Can be different about (380kcal) Total Calories=1285 and about an extra 100-200 including drinks. Will I see good results with this diet quickly? And Is this calorie intake safe? Thanks :d_rolleye

Not good. Rice cakes are very high GI, and you're mixing this with high fat peanut butter. This is a recipe for fat storage.
Why not have some eggs for breakfast? something like 6 egg whites, 2 yolks.

10:45am Banana and plum(180kcal)
this isnt that bad. but you should try to get a lean protein source in every meal, even for snacks.

1:15pm Chicken salad(325kcal)
thats fine. try not to eat any of the crutons tho.
they usually have transfats.
although, its a small thing to worry about.

4:30 soup(200kcal)
protein in every meal.

dinner - make sure you're eating alot of protein.
at 1285 calories, you will see VERY fast results, but looking at ur diet right now, it will mostly be muscle.
add about 800 calories, although i dont know your stats, so i cant say this for certain.

all i can say is more protein, more healthy fats, more veggies, more food, and you NEED to lift weights.
much much more important than running.
my current body is an example of why focusing on running is a BAD thing when trying to lose weight.

and from now on, it will be an extra ZERO calories from drinks.
only drink water from now on. theres no reason for anything else.
you'll get used to it.

read the STICKY's at the top of the Introductions forum.
Gravityhomer's Fatloss guide is a pretty good one. form your plan after reading that.

no, dont keep at it - thats what i'm trying to say.
read the stickies at the top of the forum, and reform your plan.
if you keep at it (doing what you're currently doing) you will lose all of your muscle.

Wh0areume,

I get your general idea on limiting running type activity, in favor of building muscle to increase metabolism, etc. It is the blanket response I usually find here and I can accept it's utility as a suggestion when taken in a vacuum without additional information on goals, etc.

However, if the original poster had clearly said his goal was related to losing fat and gaining "football fitness", would you change your blanket recommendation? (Assume by 'football' we are talking 'non american football' which places an emphasis on both strength -particularly lower body - as well as cardiovascular endurance.)

Second, you said "my current body is an example of why focusing on running is a BAD thing when trying to lose weight." Can you clarify? Do you mean that you sacrificed too much muscle in the process to meet your ultimate goals? .

Thanks for your opinions, look forward to your insight, and sorry in advance if this is mundane.

how is it a blanket response? i think cardio is very important, especially running in his case if he's playing football.
but - he said "oh ya, i lift weights sometimes too"
i wanted to stress that lifting is more important than he's making it out to be, especially for football.

stop saying blanket.
what does blanket mean? you wanna fight?

ya, i'll explain.
I lost 92 lbs in less than a year.
the whole time, my focus was on running in the morning, and a low calorie diet.
For weight training, i was only doing bench presses in my basement.

so yes, i lost alot of muscle, and most of all, my arms were never developed - only my chest was.
so now i have a very unsymetrical body, which is going to take years to change.

i recommend slowly cutting.
which means eat about 2200-2400 calories a day, lift weights, and do cardio.

Thanks for the explanations. It often helps to have perspective when reading peoples' input.

Blanket. (Just checking.)
