So what do you guys (and gals) listen to when working out?

I'm partial to old Metallica, Sum41, that type of stuff. Sometimes I'll thrown in some hip-hop. But my tracks are getting stale. Any suggestions?

Something agressive. Industrial, grunge or metal. Usually KMFDM, Nirvana, Alice In Chains, old Metallica, Guns 'N Roses and other similar bands.

Metallica, particulary Damage Inc, Master of Puppets, St.Anger, Blackened, Creeping Death, And anything from Garage Inc that's got a good pace.

Either that or something like children of bodom, in flames or megadeth.

Enya and Enigma. I like to doze off as I work out. That way I get rest and exercise all at once.

It's funny to see that most of us listen to the same basic genre of music

I like to listen to techno - stuff like Bad Boy Bill, Richard Vission (hard house stuff). I don't know if anyone else likes this stuff, but it keeps me pumped and I can work out to the beats.

I watch ESPN almost exclusively. I never listen to music anymore when I work out, but every once in a while I will listen to something I haven't heard for a while when I am running for 45 minutes on the treadmill. It keeps me more trying to guess which song is next instead of how many seconds until I'm done running. ;)

i only listen to music during my cardio, and most of the songs keep my heart rate jammin. madison street, crystal method, ATC, chemical bros, kylie minogue, a lot of techno :claphigh:

I do 30 mins of stairs every day so I listen to Busy Child by The Crystal Method. I have a 64 meg mp3 player and I have 8 copies of that song on it and I just listen to it over and over. I step to the beat of the music and that song has the correct beat. If I find any others like it I'll probably add them but right now its good.

I don't listen when I lift weights, the gym has XFM playing and I use my MP3 player as a timer between sets.

When I'm alone: LL Cool J, Tupac, Public Enemy, Kid Rock, Limp Bizkit, NickelBack, DMX, and Ludacris. Mother by Danzig (love that song). 80s metal (White Lion, Bon Jovi, Motley Crue, Whitesnake, Cinderella, Bullet Boys, Queen, Def Leppard, Genesis)

When the wife is around, I play high energy Pop/R&B: Snap (I got the Power), Christina Aguilera (Fighter, Can't Hold Us Down, Dirrty), Janet Jackson (Black Cat, Rhythm Nation, If), C&C Music Factory, Rob Thomas (Smooth, Disease), etc

Does anyone have the playlists of the RPM, Body Combat, Body Pump, etc routines from http://www.bodytrainingsystems.com/ (these programs are pretty popular here in Europe, not sure about the states)?

The musics in these training routines are really motivating...

Not working out much at the moment (purchasing stationary bike soon, weight lifting starts early february), but when I start, I'm definitely going to include Nate Dogg in my playlist :) His latest album "Music and Me" is great stuff

Other than that, I'll try finding some songs by my favourite bands with a good driving/pumping rythm... My favourite bands are Tool, A Perfect Circle, Dream Theater, Soundgarden, Tenacious D, Nine Inch Nails and lots of other bands I probably forgot about just now

Ah well... :)

I listen to metal, and by metal I mean real metal. Stuff like Nile, Vital Remains, Amon Amarth, The Black Dahlia Murder, Children of Bodom, Kalmah, Opeth, As I lay Dying, Death, Cradle of Filth, old Metallica (battery is such an awesome song to workout to, I'll go as far as to say it's the best ever), Slayer, Napalm Death, Entombed, and Soilwork on occassion. I listen to other metal bands but these I think are more suited to working out. The user name is from the In Flames album, but in general they are too melodic for working out. Nothing beats brutal, loud, agressive, abrasive music when you are working out.

Jonesy, aside from Slayer, you do listen to mellow stuff.

When I lift, themes from Indiana Jones, Superman and Rocky. Looped. Lame, but oddly effective.

When I go jogging in the morning, I usually listen to NPR or an audiobook.

When I'm doing HIIT, I don't listen to anything unless someone is playing a CD at the gym because I get annoyed by the headphones.

As a side note, a middle age fellow has started working out at the same time as me every evening. I helped him with a few exercises one evening and we started talking a bit. He asked if I minded him playing music when he worked out in the future. I told him I wouldn't mind at all. The next day he brought in what appears to be a "Mellow Hits of the 60s" collection. I'm not certain that I can work out to "Afternoon Delight" for much longer.

IMHO heavy metallick/rock music is not very uplifting. I use psychedelic trance (Skazi, GMS, Sesto Sento and varios compilations from www.psyshop.com), they lift me up even if I am almost dead.

The new Hatebreed the Rise of Brutality" is a VERY MOTIVATIONAL HEAVY CD. I have been playing it everyday especially during my HIIT sessions. The lyrics are, shall we say, inspirational. Here is a sample of some. "This is now. How can I change tommorow if I can't change today. This is now. If I control myself I control my destiny." Here is another beauty, "Facing what consumes you is the only way to be free." Or how 'bout this, "Every drop of blood, every bitter tear, every bead of sweat, I LIVE FOR THIS!!! Oh and this one, "DO IT! Some scars are meant to be worn with pride. Everyday is knowledge to use in life. Setbacks are used to probel me forward." And last but not least, the opening song, "How much more can you possibly take? How many battles can you loose in one day?.......How much longer, how much more? Until you gain some self respect?.......Confront and shatter everything that stands in your way." Ok I will leave you to deal with that. Now go out and buy the disk you will not have a more pumped, jacked up workout than while listening to this.

BODOM AND SOILWORK OWN. I have been listening to the latest Arch Enemy album while I work out and I just got my 2 lamb of god cds back from my friend. Lamb and Soilwork are my two favorites for cardio.

Thanks for stating the REAL metal bands, so often people think that Metallica is metal just because they have metal in their name. Well done.

Yeah Anthems is a great cd. Metallica is metal, their old shit fucking rules. Their first 4 albums are nothing short of amazing. Then they decided to start sucking. If you like Bodom you should check out Kalmah if you haven't already. Anyway someone in either this thread or the other one on the weight training board said they liked Metallica but only listed their shitty songs. You definitely need to listen to their early stuff.

I listen to any thing fast with a good beat for cardio. Mostly my taste in music is for rock music from the 70's up to the present, some new country music too. So I have lot of music to choose from to put on my minidisk. I like other like Zep, AC/DC, metalica, gun n roses, the who, rush, and much more. I also have been listening to the Pink Floyd's The wall a lot, my brother thinks it strange. he doessn't get how I can work out to that.

I get my energy from the dark side. I can't listen to "You can do it", "I know I can!" uplifting pop tracks.

Metallica.
Iced Earth.
Pantera/New Found Power.
Slayer.
Old White Zombie.

Music that can thrash seemingly out of control and then stop on a dime is usually the best.

The only new stuff that's any good is Ra, a band which released their disc about a year and a half ago. Definitely the best new hard rock in a while.

Personally I like System of a Down, Disturbed, old Metallica, maybe jam some 80s rock like Babylon AD, Tesla, or AC/DC.

Most of the time I have the news on to see what's happening in the world.

I just deal with what the gym speaker system spits out, I wouldn't mind getting an iPod and using that while I'm on the treadmill, maybe something with a bit of a beat like some house or something like that.

Ideally weight lifting would have something either pretty angry (I loves my metal :D ) or again something with a nice beat, depending on my mood. Yesterday was a metal day if I'd had the choice, I was getting annoyed with not being able to manage those last few reps :D

Electropop/synth/rap/techno/trance/pop/rock

Covenant, Apoptygma Berzerk, Aphex Twin, Paul Van Dyk, Pulp, Ice Mc, Snoop Dogg, 50 cent, Underworld, Toybox, Aqua, Eminem, Dr Dre

most important thing is that it has a good rythm, and preferably a somewhat aggressive tone to it  :db: :d_mad: :)

Am I the only one who likes silence while lifting?

I can't stand to have anything on. I might like it better with the cardio, but for now I go silent there too.

Having music on seems to dull my concentration.
