Last time I was in the US, I picked up a bottle of Metamusil in pill form. These were great, as I can't stand the powder and the cookies are way too expensive (and contain extra fat and carbs I don't want). I've looked high and low for the pills in Toronto, but can't seem to find them anywhere.

Are these a US only product? If not, please let me know where I can get some.

hmm, whats wrong w/ the powder? I found it the easiest fiber to take. Just make sure u have super cold water and shake to get it mixed. Then, hold ur nose and chug. Unlike other fiber powders, this leaves no aftertaste.

I just never cared for the taste or texture of the powder.

I'm considering buying the sugar-free unsweetened power and mixing it in my morning protein shake. Would that be okay?

My $0.02...

The Bowel Buddie cookies (made in our own Sask., CA) are the best as far as I'm concerned. I take Metamucil (sp?) in the powder form and it's ok with water but this is far healthier in my opinion.

That seems like an awful lot of fat and carbs just to add extra fiber on a daily basis.

I ended up buying the sugar free orange Metamucil. It's no where near as bad as I remember it. Maybe because this is the 'smooth' texture version instead of the original.

Sure, compared to a pill it is, LOL. But if you have gotten anything from reading the numerous articles written about various fats (sat., polys and monos) and carbs (Hi / Lo GI's), not all of these are equal. The fat content is derived from eggs, not Hyrodenated oils, and the carbs are derived from dietary fibre not sugars.

I understand where you may be coming from, because the calories are high...but for the purpose the food serves, it may be well worth it. Personally, I have taken it meta., and I would caution anyone against relying on Metamucil for their recommended dietary fibre intake (around 34g-36g). You'll only get 3g-4g fibre tops per dose of Metam. where as two biscuits above (1 serving = 2 biscuits) will give you 11-12g. Also, I have read that prolonged use of laxatives (daily to maintain regularity) will make your digestive system 'lazy' and not work properly. If the calories or fat concern you eat only one per serving and you'll still be better off, IMO.

Try Costco/Price Club - I picked up a bottle in a Toronto price club with 300 caplets for about $30. I saw them at Shoppers Drug Mart too, but much more expensive. Hope that helps! Cheers.
