Friend of mine just nearly chewed me out for mentioning creatine...supposedly she "knows a boy" who has to take it cause his body quit producing it. Rather than start a fight about it i figured I'd come here and ask

My question to you people is: Can that happen? Or are the odds in favor of the kid abusing creatine to begin with? Or is it total bunk?

Who knows. Maybe she has a friend like that. Weird that he has to take the supplement, when he can get creatine naturally through meats ... maybe he's a vegetarian? There is no documented evidence for this happening in almost two decades of research with individuals who have taken it for more than 15 years.

See that was the kinda thing I was wondering about...but even a vegetarian can get creatine through other means right?

Is she sure her friend isn't taking testosterone? Very strange...

Yea I mentioned it to a personal trainer friend of mine who is in the business and freaked out when he heard me mention creatine. He says it destroys your liver blablabla. I'm still going to take it but what do you guys think? He seemed pretty convinced and if he wasnt a trainer I wouldn't think twice about it.

There is simply, factually no evidence of either of these two things being the result of creatine supplementation. It's been thoroughly studied. It may have long term side effects, nobody knows for sure. But anything spoke with conviction is simply conjecture. It continues to be among the safest supplements one can buy with little to no side effects and all legitimate verifiable side effects are small; definitely nothing like organs shutting down or similar nonsense.

I've used creatine before when I was younger. Was good when I was on it, but found that it negatively impacted my intensity when I was off it.

Might try it again sometime in the future when I hit a plateau but so far I've done pretty good without it.

I saw no ill effects except that monohydrate made me sick. :(

Mono gives me "the runs" and slight stomach aches for the first week. After that everything is fine.

Was just on a site called BEFIT INC. was looking at creatine supps. In an ad for Purple K they state " Creatine converts to toxic Creatinine". And also " Problem with existing creatine supps is thier inability to deliver a cocentrated and stable amount of creatine to the muscular system once a liquid activates it." Apparently Purple K is the only creatine supp in the world that does not do this. Was going to start taking creatine supps but now I'm thinking twice......didn't know it went toxic......anybody else heard of these aftereffects?

Creatinine is just the breakdown byproduct of creatine. I don't believe it's toxic. Purple K is using fear as a marketing ploy. Apparently it's working.
