View Full Version : Eating Clean for 30 days Challenge
Boxer-in-training Tue, September 27th, 2005, 06:08 PM Anyone up for a 30 day challenge of eating clean? That means no processed foods or anything that could be considered junk food. Protein bars are included in this "junk food." So anyone want to try with me to eat clean for 30 days? No cheat meals or anything. I need a new goal and a new challenger.

I’d like to try if I could jump in say after October 8th, Greek Festival night; I have so been looking forward to the baklava, etc... If that’s OK, count me in!
slush_puppy Tue, September 27th, 2005, 08:50 PM Yes! This will be the perfect compliment to my other morning cardio/lifting challenge. I had such a crap day yesterday and totally melted down after a week of solid dieting. I ate junk last night, and today I ate a family sized bag of swedish fish (http://caganator11.tripod.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/swedishfishes.jpg) :d_eek: . I couldn't help it, something stressful totally knocked me off the wagon.
Ok, so starting the second I push the "Submit" button, I'm clean for a month. [runs to down some cheetos] Alright, I'm ready. Should we post our diets, just so we all have an idea of what we're all eating?
Thanks for the thread, looking forward to going toe-to-toe with you!
Boxer-in-training Wed, September 28th, 2005, 01:08 AM Sounds great you guys! Sure, you can jump in on the 8th Carole. O.K. Slush Puppy, say starting tomorrow we start the eating clean for 30 days? I think posting our daily eating would probably be a good idea, would help keep me straight.
Slush, you are my kindred spirit. I love Swedish Fish and could down an entire bag of it also. I wouldn't dare tell you what my binge last Saturday consisted of. O.K. I will. It was 4 Bavarian cream donuts, 5 icecream sandwiches, some peachie-O 's some gummy candies, some fries, a giant cookie, some Taco Bell ( gasp.) Are you sick and bloated yet reading that? What can I say, I don't have to make  weight anytime soon. It was probably a 5,000- 6,000 calorie day.
Anyway, this will be great and just in time to gear up for the binge that will happen after 30 days- around Halloween, perfect timing. :tu:
Anyone else in? Remember, the first 4-5 days are the hardest, when you are detoxing off the sugar and trying to get the severe cravings out of your system.
M3kamikaze Wed, September 28th, 2005, 02:40 AM Anyone else in? Remember, the first 4-5 days are the hardest, when you are detoxing off the sugar and trying to get the severe cravings out of your system.
I'm in. I was hoping someone would start up another challenge. And it just so happens to be something I'm already doing. Wednesday will already be Day 3 for me, but I can make it 33 days I believe.
I was wondering how often to check in: daily, weekly, etc.? I post my daily meals in my journal (http://forums.johnstonefitness.com/showthread.php?p=208065), but can post them here as well, depending on what you folks want.
slush_puppy Wed, September 28th, 2005, 09:38 AM The slush_puppy diet
6:00am
1 scoop whey protein
2 tbsp heavy cream
9:00am
4 oz chicken breast
1/2 cup oats (dry)
12:00pm
4 oz chicken breast
Mixed greens salad
3:00pm
6 oz tuna
1 tbsp natural peanut butter
6:00pm
6 scrambled eggs (2 yolks)
[Post workout shake after lifting]
2 scoops whey protein
2 scoops dextrose
9:00pm
1 1/2 cups cottage cheese
This with some variation from day to day puts me between 1600-1800 calories per day. I weigh 160 so that's right around where I want to be in calories... I know that from experience as well.
The hardest part is the carbs. This is truly a carb-hatin' diet and the challenge of getting over those first 5 days, just like boxer-in-training said, will be my biggest obstacle for the next 30 days. I'm also looking into replacing the dextrose with some BCAAs, but honestly sometimes the dextrose treat after the workout is what gets me through sometimes.
Can't wait to see the rest of the menus! Good luck all! :tucool:
lance02 Wed, September 28th, 2005, 10:38 AM I'm in. Boxer, this sounds like a great challenge!
Starting stats:
6'1"
178 lbs
BF estimate: 13%
I have made good progress over the course of the last 14 months. However, I am currently struggling with the remaining fat around my mid section. So, hopefully this combined with my current cardio and resistance training will be the icing on the cake (well, maybe not cake in this instance!).
I'm starting now, since my breakfast was bad -- belgian waffle with loads of whip cream and strawberries.
Good luck to all!
Lance
Boxer-in-training Wed, September 28th, 2005, 03:40 PM I am not doing a cutting or bulking diet, just a maintenance, something to challenge me. I did the low carb diet for a couple of months to make weight for a fight. It sucked big time. I will keep carbs and protein pretty balanced, but may lean heavier on carbs at time for the energy. I am going to try and keep cals somewhere between 1800-2600. A huge variance I know, but even though I have scaled back my workouts, there will be somedays that I will still train twice a day.
Also, for me, I will post what I ate at the end of the day. I never plan ahead with the diet, it makes me even more obsessive than I already am. :p
Everyone check in when you want. For me, I will try and check in on a daily basis so I can have some accountability. This is soo awesome! So glad you guys are on board.
My stats are:
6"0
142
around 10% bodyfat

I could have eaten a bit more today, but I just wasn't hungry. I'm sure I'll be getting more in tomorrow after lifting today.
Boxer-in-training Thu, September 29th, 2005, 12:14 AM O.K. Here is mine. I had two packages of Ramen Noodles and washed them down with 2 liters of pepsi. Nah.. Just seeing if you were still with me.
1 serving shredded wheat with skim milk
1 scoop of whey mixed with water
omelette with tomatoes, cauliflower, broccoli
diced potatoes, 2 pieces of WW toast ( post workout meal)
protein shake - 1 scoop of whey mixed with milk

1/2c. cottage cheese

Had two workouts today. HIIT running this morning and moderate boxing skills training this evening.
Have no idea what my macro breakdown is.
O.K. another thing I want to add. It might be good to post what your temptations food wise were for the day, and how you got around it.
1 day down, 29 to go :tu:
TarSeal Thu, September 29th, 2005, 12:37 AM Good luck guys! I'll be following this one. I'm afraid I can't join up because I'm planning to drink a case of beer this weekend. Who knows what nutritional snafus that's going to lead to... But I'm rooting for you guys! :tucool:

slush_puppy Thu, September 29th, 2005, 09:24 AM Hey Slush, where are the veggies? Are you veggiphobic?
I'm not veggiephobic, but I'm no veggie lover either. I've got green beans and broccoli in the work fridge, I just didn't eat them today because I just wasn't feeling very veggie today. I did get two pieces of fruit, though! :D That has to cound for something.
BTW, I like your idea about writing down food temptations.
slush_puppy Thu, September 29th, 2005, 09:35 AM M3kamikaze, your diet looks solid. This is a great challenge.

M3kamikaze Thu, September 29th, 2005, 04:05 PM M3kamikaze, your diet looks solid. This is a great challenge.
Thanks man! I've been coming to JSF for over a year now, reading thread after thread. I'm still experimenting with food alternatives and such, but I feel like I've got a good idea of what I should eat.
I've enjoyed reading a lot of people's journals over here and on SOBF.net. You really get to read about all their trials and tribulations, and it gives you the feeling that everyone goes through their ups and downs. But it's the people that keep trudging through it all that give me the motivation and courgage that I can do it too. That's why I'm glad that I can be in a challenge with some of the people I look up to.

Benny Thu, September 29th, 2005, 10:37 PM sure not like it's anything new to me anymore :), been eating clean with only 1 cheat meal for 3 month so this might be easy :P
lance02 Thu, September 29th, 2005, 10:58 PM lance02, are you a vegetarian?
No. I love meat, just don't eat as much as I used to.
By the way, your diet looks very good -- keep it up and this challenge will be a piece of cake!
misterjingo Thu, September 29th, 2005, 11:03 PM Anyone up for a 30 day challenge of eating clean? That means no processed foods or anything that could be considered junk food. Protein bars are included in this "junk food." So anyone want to try with me to eat clean for 30 days? No cheat meals or anything. I need a new goal and a new challenger.
Could you expand on what you mean by processed food? Obviously I figure something like Hot Pockets would be a good example. What about stuff like Morningstar Farms burgers or veggie dogs?
lance02 Thu, September 29th, 2005, 11:05 PM Food Log - Sept 29th
7 AM - 2 muffins, protein smoothie
10 AM - pear, banana
12 PM - tuna sandwich, protein smoothie
3 PM - apple, yogurt, almonds
5 PM - baked chicken, green beans, mashed potatoes
9 PM - protein drink
Tonight was a lifting night, so after my workout I had a protein/dextrose drink to replenish. Workout was good, but not great. Had shoulder problems (bursitis, I believe) back in July, and am still recovering. Feels much better, but some lifts are still a bit difficult - including the ones I did tonight. Hoping to get out for a run tomorrow morning.
Boxer -- I enjoy your journal -- you are inspirational in seeing you in your boxing pursuit. Congrats on going after this, and good luck at it, and with this challenge.

jasoncurry29 Thu, September 29th, 2005, 11:45 PM I'll join too... but not until oct. 7th. the 6th is my birthday so I'm going to enjoy it!.. I really need this too. I've lost a lot of weight but have struggled for a year trying to lose those last 10 pounds. So hopefully this will help.

Thanks Lance! I appreciate it. Your diet looks great. I understand the shoulder bursitis. I had a frozen shoulder and bursitis 4 1/2 years ago. painful. It takes time to strengthen it and heal it. Be patient. You are doing great!
Eating today:
My weight was down a lb. and I felt hungry today
protein pancakes ( 1/2 c. oatmeal, 1/2 c. cottage cheese, 3 egg whites) 1 serving of Bran Flakes with skim milk. I was hungry!
Next meal was grilled chicken with rice
Meal #3 steak taco salad with side of pinto beans
Meal #4 1 scoop of whey mixed with water, 1/2 plum, bowl of bran flakes with skim milk, 8 almonds
Meal #5 4 egg whites/ 1 whole egg omelette with 1/3c. of fresh salsa
Today was hard to avoid temptation. Around 5:30 I just felt frustrated and tired of dealing with the kids. I was SOO temped to go to the store and get some pastries. But I remember my challenge and the commitment I made here. Then I just got myself busy and cleaned the bathroom and the grill outside and kept my mind off of things.
Sugar is the one thing that will be the hardest for me. My favorite binge foods are: cheesecake, a custard filled donut/pastry, chocolate chip cookies, candy, and chocolate and icecream. Those are my weaknesses.
Everyone, you are doing great and I am excited for those taking on the challenge!
days of clean eating : 2 with 28 to go!
Boxer-in-training Fri, September 30th, 2005, 12:43 AM Could you expand on what you mean by processed food? Obviously I figure something like Hot Pockets would be a good example. What about stuff like Morningstar Farms burgers or veggie dogs?
Hmm, what do the rest of you guys think? yea or nay? I usually go with the "If it doesn't occur naturally, I stay away from it." This could lead to some debate. Are you vegetarian and have a hard time getting protein from other sources?
M3kamikaze Fri, September 30th, 2005, 01:16 AM Hmm, what do the rest of you guys think? yea or nay? I usually go with the "If it doesn't occur naturally, I stay away from it."
Yea, I think it's fine even if they're not vegetarian. Morningstar products are substitutes for meat, which are considered a clean food. Now if its all they eat all day long, then I would have to say nay.

Warmed up nicely here in Wis, and ended up being a beautiful day - too bad I had to work. Sat/Sun are supposed to be the same. Will be nice for watching the kids play their soccer and football games.
Weekends are always the hardest for me in terms of diet - so this will be the real challenge for me the next two days.

No temptations at all today, doing great so far. You guys ready to jump into the first weekend of this challenge? These next two days are probably going to be two of the toughest days, let's all stay on track!
Boxer-in-training Sat, October 1st, 2005, 12:37 AM No temptations at all today, doing great so far. You guys ready to jump into the first weekend of this challenge? These next two days are probably going to be two of the toughest days, let's all stay on track!
I don't think the weekend will be too bad for me. Mondays and Tuesdays seem to be my weak days when my husband is around more. Slush, you stay away from that bag of potato chips during the RJJ vs. Tarver fight tomorrow - o.k.? ;) Are you going to watch the PPV? Or no? I'm not, my sparring partner is competing tomorrow night, so I will be there cheering him on.
My eating for today:
7 a.m. : 1 serving of Bran Flakes with skim milk
1 scoop of whey with water, 1/2 c. red grapes
11:00 a.m. : Roast beef French dip sandwich and broccoli soup
2:30 p.m. : 1.5 c Kashi Go Lean cereal with 3/4 c. of skim milk
4:30 p.m. : 1 hamburger wrapped in lettuce - 4% fat on the hamburger, and 1/2 of another hamburger with half of a bun, Total around 350 cals
5:00 p.m. : Handful of almonds and raisins
6:45 p.m. : 5 egg whites x 1 whole egg omelette, 1/2 c. salsa, 1 green apple
9:45 p.m.: 1 scoop of whey with water, 1 small nectarine
It still put me at just around 2300-2400 calories for the day.
So, at one of my local grocery stores, they carry frozen hamburger patties- the brand is Moran's - and they are only 4% fat! 150 calories each and 25g of protein. They have the American Heart Society logo on the front of them. :tu: Anyway, I discovered them a few months ago, and yum. Just throw them on the grill and voila!
So what brand of whey is everyone using? I switch different brands and flavors when I run out, just to try something new. Currently I am using Elite Whey Protein by Dymatize Nutrition , berry flavored. It is really good, tastes like strawberry Nestle Quik, even just mixed with water.
No real temptations today either. Thank goodness.

Sept 30, 2005
Healthy clean eating challenge - COMPLETED 3/3
You guys ready to jump into the first weekend of this challenge? These next two days are probably going to be two of the toughest days, let's all stay on track!
This will be a large challenge for me. I am motivated enough to where I'm not too worried about it, and I know I won't give in, but I'm still nervous. Big birthday kegs party tomorrow for a friend of mine. We made 500 jello shots tonight. It's going to be crazier than last weekend. But as I said in my journal yesterday, I'll have my pint glass with me at all times...............filled with water. I'll even add a lime to it to make me not look out of place and so I won't get all the "why the hell aren't you drinking?" comments.
So what brand of whey is everyone using?
5 lb tub of All The Whey vanilla isolate. Shaken, not stirred (someone else on JSF used this phrase). It's the only whey protein I've had, so I can't really compare it to anything. I like it though.
Temptations today:
none really. I was so not hungry today, and the fact that I had to eat all this damned food made me not think of eating anything else. <sigh> But while typing this post, I thought of a patty melt slathered in so much cheese, butter, & grease you could feel your arteries clogging up. That would be nice.
Today's Meals consisted of:
Quick Oats (1/2 cup), 2% Milk(1/2 cup), Sugar Substitute (2 packets), 1 Egg (1/2 egg white, 1/2 yolk), Wheat Bread (1 slice), Whey Protein (1 oz)
Calories - 430
Chicken Breast (6 oz), 1 Banana (average)
Calories - 314
Egg Whites (2), Horseradish Sauce (A LOT!!! 4 tsp), Tuna (6 oz)
Calories - 290
Wheat Bread (1 slice), 1 Egg (1/2 egg white, 1/2 yolk)
Calories - 344
Catfish (farmed, 8 oz), Canola Oil (1 tbsp), Plum (4.5 oz)
Calories - 497
Cottage Cheese (1/2 cup), Egg White (1), Whey Protein (1 oz)
Calories - 191
Calories - 1838; P/C/F - 44.21/27.04/30.05
Yes, macros are off. I shouldn't have used all that horseradish sauce. I'll use mustard tomorrow. I had a plum today. Where are my veggies? In the freezer and the fridge, still.
slush_puppy Sat, October 1st, 2005, 09:50 AM Slush, you stay away from that bag of potato chips during the RJJ vs. Tarver fight tomorrow - o.k.? ;) Are you going to watch the PPV?
Nah. Jones and Tarver just doesn't do it for me enough to shell out money. I can wait until next weekend and see it for free.
Now, Corrales/Castillo 2 and Hopkins/Taylor 2... there's $100 already set aside in my budget. Can't wait for those. :D
Boxer-in-training Sun, October 2nd, 2005, 01:57 AM Here is eating for the day: meal 4 the portions were WAY too big because I went 4 1/2 hours without eating due to some other stuff. But I still stayed o.k. calorie wise for the day.
Meal 1: 1c. Kashi Go Lean Cereal, 1/2 c. skim milk, 5 eggwhites & 1 whole egg. 1/3c. salsa
Meal 2: 1 scoop of whey, 1 c. kashi Go Lean Cereal, 1/2 c. skim milk, 1 pear
Meal 3: 1/2c. cottage cheese, small nectarine, 4 oz. of baby carrots.
Meal 4: 2 roast beef sandwiches and peppers ( too many calories)
Meal 5: 4 oz. baby carrots, 6oz. Dannon Light N'Fit Yogurt ( blueberry :D )
Temptations for the day? Where do I start? I went grocery shopping today with two kids in tow. The bakery was smelling mighty fine today. The bulk candy was looking pretty good also. And lest I forget, the frozen section and the wall of ice cream. Probably the biggest temptation was the donuts. Phew! I made it out of there alive. Even got my my kids each a treat for being good and I didn't have a bite of their gummy bears. :claphigh:
4 Days down, 26 to go. Hope the rest of you are faring well this weekend.
slush_puppy Mon, October 3rd, 2005, 12:11 AM Well, I don't know my totals for the last two days, but it was pretty much the same as my regular days, except my wife and I got to spend the night out when my folks dropped into town. That was nice!! On saturday, I had a filet and lobster dinner :D and an espresso. I sat there and watched while my wife ate bread before dinner and then a whole slice of cheesecake after dinner. Somehow, I was ok with that, not very tempted. The next morning we had a great breakfast and I had bacon and eggs. When we got back home, I just kicked back into normal eating. I am proud that I resisted all of the side stuff at dinner... no bread, just water to drink, no desert. Then at breakfast I held off on the toast and juice. So I think I succeeded. Anyway, I'm looking forward to starting off the week and getting back into normal day to day eating.

WTG Slush! I am proud of you. Not easy I know.
Today my calories were on, but my macros were off. I think it was more like 20f/15p/65c. I ate a lot of fruit today. apples, nectarine, pears. And kashi cereal as well as oatmeal. I also ate a lot of salads. But not a lot of protein. Just wasn't feeling like it today, which is o.k. I think.
lance02 Mon, October 3rd, 2005, 09:59 AM What kind of whey protein do I use? All the Whey chocolate, vanilla, and orange. Only ones I have used, but like them alot.
Well, as slush said, the weekend can be tough -- I agree!
On Saturday, we had soccer and football games for the 3 kids. And we worked in the concession stand at the football games -- talk about temptation -- available food just waiting to be eaten! But I resisted, even though my wife gave me a hard time (she thinks I'm obsessed at times) for not even taking a few pieces of popcorn.
Sunday was easier.
Workout wise - On Sunday, got in a 10 mile run on Sunday morning, and a full body weight workout in the evening.
Food Log - Oct 1st
7 AM - oatmeal, protein smoothie
11 AM - spaghetti, 1/2 lean hamburger, protein smoothie
2 PM - yogurt, banana
6 PM - chicken pizza, milk
8 PM - apple, grapes

lance02 Mon, October 3rd, 2005, 10:04 AM Boxer - many thanks for starting this challenge.
Without it, I know my diet would have slipped already -- especially over the weekend. Knowing that I had signed up for this challenge, really made me buckle down over the weekend -- the time when it is most difficult for me. Between working at the concession stand this weekend (see previous post) and freshly made cookies sitting out at home, I would have easily caved into the temptations had I not been signed up here.
Again, THANK YOU making this challenge!
Lance

Great job! :tucool: That's what makes challenges so great, knowing that a few other people are doing what you're doing. It makes it feel like you're not in it alone. Anyway, good work last weekend!

misterjingo Tue, October 4th, 2005, 09:38 AM First day was yesterday, and I think I did pretty well. I guess I should give a little background first. I'm 6'2" and weight around 280. I'm trying to lose weight and I'm using a spreadsheet I found at this site. My long range goal is to get down below 200 lbs, but right now I'm concentrating on the day to day situation. Ok enough rambling-here is what I ate Monday:

Not much variety in protein, but I was so busy yesterday with teaching etc. that all I had time for was protein shakes at times.
Last night was my temptation night. Man, I SOO wanted to cheat. Long day, tired, feeling sick with a cold. But I didn't and I am glad I stayed strong.
I am glad that you are all doing well on your challenges so far.
My coach wants me to shoot for 200grams of protein a day. That is a lot for me, I get burned out on protein easily, but I am giving it a try.
Day 6.5 days of clean eating so far.

M3kamikaze Wed, October 5th, 2005, 03:02 AM Well I'm still alive. I've had a busy weekend + a couple days. I didn't get to record what I ate as I was away from the computer, and I forgot exactly what quantities I ate from the days before, but I didn't cheat. I've held true to this challenge. I've eaten all clean meals. And it's been 11 days since I've had any alcohol. Tomorrow I'll post my meals again. Learning from this past weekend, I'll be more prepared.
Skoorb Wed, October 5th, 2005, 06:57 AM Wow, that is a serious challenge. The longest I've gone eating clean _including no processed food_, is probably a day or two, tops, in my entire life :o
misterjingo Wed, October 5th, 2005, 09:33 AM Day 2 of Clean Eating:
Breakfast-Blackberry smoothie with added tofu
AM Snack-2 tuna sandwiches with cheese
Lunch-Morningstar Farms Chicken Patties
PM Snack-2 roast beef (lean) sandwiches
Dinner-2 frozen tuna steaks from Costco with cheese.
Cals: 2820
Protein: 304.5 g (43%)
Carbs: 248g (35%)
Fat: 69.5 g (22%)
This is going to be much harder than I thought. As I was in the grocery store it was so difficult not to break down and buy crap to eat. I'm hoping that as the challenge progresses it will be easier for me to avoid the bad stuff.
Also, today is my birthday, and hopefully nobody will bring in anything to the office today.
slush_puppy Wed, October 5th, 2005, 10:00 AM Here was my food for 10/4 :
1 scoop whey protein
2 tbsp heavy cream
4 oz grilled chicken breast
1/2 cup oats
6 oz grilled chicken breast
2 cups broccoli
6 oz tuna
6 eggs (2 yolks)
[workout]
12 oz whole milk
1 scoop ON egg protein
3/4 cup oats
I don't have the software here to figure out the breakdown, but it's a solid day in my book. No temptations, I'm amazed at how long I've gone without craving something junky. I must still have some swedish fish in my system!
Now tonight is going to be tough. My wife is going over to the doctor today for a , well, not fun visit... and she's requested pizza (really good NY stuff) for dinner, her way of "focusing". The kids are jacked about it of course, and I just have to resist. (sigh) I'll just have to join in with my eggs. Thanks God for the eggs, I love them so I really look forward to that meal, especially during the most dangerous cheating hours of the day... right after work.
slush_puppy Wed, October 5th, 2005, 10:03 AM Wow, that is a serious challenge.
I'm focusing on the end date of Oct. 30. I may make halloween a big time cheat day in celebration. Or maybe not, maybe I'll just keep on doing this thing into November. I have a feeling, though, that my kids are going to be wondering where all their halloween candy went. ;)

 I hear you Slush! My oldest daughter's birthday is October 31st. So Halloween is always a big party day at our house. Lots of treats. I have every intention of eating yummy junk that day.
Hmm, yesterday. Hard day, it was kind of a blur. I got a call yesterday that a dear friend of mine passed away that day. She was a surrogate Grandma to me. I have no family around and my girls and I kind of adopted her and had been visiting her for years. Her husband passed away about 20 years ago and they were never able to have any kids of their own. So she had no family. Everytime my girls and I would go visit her, she would always give us a box of chocolates from the local the chocolatier - the good stuff. Anyway, Julia was 95 and her health went down hill pretty fast in the past 2 months. I know it was her time to go, but it didn't make it any easier. I didn't get much sleep last night as I kept thinking about her. :d_frown: I am going to miss her.
Anyway, so I didn't keep any precise food log yesterday - I guess that is what I am getting to. Thoughts were on something else obviously. You will have an exact food log for today though, when I am done eating.
Keep up the good work everyone, you guys are awesome and I know this is a challenge! :tu:
Sorry for the novel.
Boxer-in-training Wed, October 5th, 2005, 11:11 AM Also, today is my birthday, and hopefully nobody will bring in anything to the office today.
Happy Birthday!
slush_puppy Wed, October 5th, 2005, 12:03 PM Also, today is my birthday, and hopefully nobody will bring in anything to the office today.
Heyy, happy birthday! Aren't you glad you joined in here early? Have a great day and enjoy your day off... just keep your cheats to yourself, I don't want to know :D
slush_puppy Wed, October 5th, 2005, 12:05 PM Hard day, it was kind of a blur.
Sorry about your loss. I can imagine that was quite a difficult day for you. It makes me happy, though, thinking about how she had someone like you and your daughters to spend time with her through the years.
misterjingo Wed, October 5th, 2005, 12:26 PM Thanks guys! Slush, lets just say that I could've cheated much more than I did. :eat:
Boxer, I'm sorry to hear about your friend. Sounds like she was a great lady.
M3kamikaze Wed, October 5th, 2005, 03:20 PM I'll just have to join in with my eggs. Thanks God for the eggs, I love them so I really look forward to that meal,EGGS!!! I feel you on that. I remember when I posted my meal plans in the intro forum, someone said to eat a lot of egg whites and I called it the egg white diet sarcastically. Well that person was right. I've been eating egg whites like crazy. I got a dozen on sale for $.79 and I go thru 12 in a matter of two days max. Egg whites go well with almost anything and everything. For example, with my toast, tuna, cottage cheese, etc.
Boxer-in-training Wed, October 5th, 2005, 09:28 PM Thanks for the sympathies guys...
Eggs, we always buy ours in the 5 dozen flat and go through those in about a week or so. I eat a lot of egg whites also. I don't eat a ton of meat, just some chicken occasionally and some red meat. Raw meat grosses me out. It has to be frozen for me to touch it, or I make my husband prepare it.

My husband tries to eat pretty well also.. Well at least he started in the last couple of months. So we have a lot of omelettes, mostly egg whites and dump the yolks. Cheap protein. I think I paid like 3.79 for 5 dozen. Not too bad.
Meal 1 1/2c. granola, skim milk, 1/2 c. blueberries, 1 1/2 scoop of whey
1 1/2 scoops of whey, banana

slush_puppy Thu, October 6th, 2005, 10:27 AM Hey guys, just wanted to post up that we are officially 1/3 of the way through the challenge!! If we made it this far we can last until Oct. 30, no problem. The hard part's over. :tucool:
misterjingo Thu, October 6th, 2005, 03:44 PM Ok yesterday did not exist. :p Today will be day 3. I'm trying to incorporate more lean meat into my diet besides canned tuna. I've found that frozen chicken still tastes pretty good, and I like the frozen fish that I've tried too.

Alright, today was HARD! I don't know why, but tonight I was having a major sugar craving. All the junk (and we don't have a lot) was calling to me from inside the cabinets... the kids' fruit roll ups, the frosted cheerios, the pudding pops, all of it. Like I said, we don;t have much junk around, but we do have some stuff that the kids like and I almost ate it all tonight. I just focused on the challenge and downed about 2 liters of water, enough to get me through.
It's funny how a half hour later, that uncontrollable feeling can pass and you wonder why in the world you were wanting to eat that junk. Anyway, victory is mine... at least for tonight.

I hear you. Donuts were calling my name. Bismark donuts. I so wanted to cheat today, but didn't.
Today's meals:
meal 1: rice/chicken/ green salad
meal 2: lean hamburger/bun/ green salad
meal 3: 1 scoop of whey/ pear/ 1/2c. granola/ 1/3 c. blueberries/ milk
meal 4: 1 scoop of whey/ 1/2c. granola/ 1/3c. of blueberries/ milk
My first meal wasn't even until noon today. I woke up this morning with an upset stomach and just didn't feel like eating anything. by the time I got in and got a decent workout in and a shower, I was starting to feel a little better. But still didn't think I could handle any food. about 2 hours after working out, I finally felt good enough to eat something, and that did the trick.
I never miss breakfast, but did today.
rsilvestri Fri, October 7th, 2005, 10:34 AM Hi guys.
I'm going to join this challenge. I'm pretty new to the idea of eating clean all week with just one cheat meal so I hope I'm not "biting off more than I can chew"....uh hmmm. Anyway, this sounds like a very challenging challenge...so i'm in.
Rod
slush_puppy Fri, October 7th, 2005, 10:54 AM Anyway, this sounds like a very challenging challenge...so i'm in.
Yes, after 11 days, I can tell you that it is challenging! BTW, we're going for all clean, no cheats through Oct. 30.
rsilvestri Fri, October 7th, 2005, 11:11 AM ah!!! I see. I thought it was 30 clean eating and you can jump in when you like....hmm...seems like a good idea for a new challenge.
John Jones Fri, October 7th, 2005, 01:46 PM I think what he meant was "no cheat days". Not that you couldn't join in
slush_puppy Fri, October 7th, 2005, 01:56 PM Oh yeah, I'm sorry rsilvestri if you got the wrong idea, you're more than welcome to join. You just mentioned a cheat a week, and we're going for no cheats, just like John Jones said.
So join in if you're up for it... I can see a good difference in my waistline since we started.
By the way, this challenge has been really cool, I'm definitely planning on doing a second one of these for the month of November (with the exception of Thanksgiving, of course). I like the idea of a full month of no cheats and then you get the last day of the month completely to yourself.
BTW, rsilvestri, that is a really nice web site you have for yourself there. Very impressive!!
rsilvestri Fri, October 7th, 2005, 02:24 PM Oh yeah, I'm sorry rsilvestri if you got the wrong idea, you're more than welcome to join. You just mentioned a cheat a week, and we're going for no cheats, just like John Jones said.
A cheat a week is what I'm doing now. I'm ready to eliminate all cheats for one week. I think the confusion lies with whether or not the start and end times are specific....which i'm think now (and originally) that they are not. :p
Because of circumstances beyond my control I will not be able to start until probobly Monday.
Thanks for the props on my site!!!
BTW, I like your avatar. Is it from the story, "where the wild things are"? I read that story to my daughter often.
slush_puppy Fri, October 7th, 2005, 03:07 PM BTW, I like your avatar. Is it from the story, "where the wild things are"?
Yeah, Max... I read it to my son, we llike him.
The only solid date in this challenge is the end date, which is October 30.
Boxer-in-training Fri, October 7th, 2005, 04:06 PM Yes, after 11 days, it is really hard - for sure. But it is nice being at day 11 now instead of day one. It challenges you mentally, that is for sure.
I think I am going to start another formal challenge the day after Thanksgiving that lasts until the 18th or so - ( when I go on vacation. BWAHAHA) ONly a three week challenge that time, but still effective.
SLush, glad to hear that you are getting so much out of this challenge. The only difference I have noticed in my waistline is that I put on an inch. But that is all good. I needed to put on some weight, which I have. LOL
jasoncurry29 Fri, October 7th, 2005, 08:46 PM So glad to be eating clean.......
1) 1 c. oats 5 egg whites
2) can of salmon
3) can of salmon
4) 1 c. 2% cottage cheese, 2 slices of turkey breast
5) 6 egg whites + 2 whole eggs
1450 calories for today
Boxer-in-training Sat, October 8th, 2005, 12:33 AM Today's Food Log :D
1.) 6 eggs ( 5 whites, 1 whole egg)
1/4c. of salsa
1/2 c. granola
1/2 c. skim milk
2/3 c. frozen blueberries
2.) 1 1/2 scoops of whey mixed with water
banana
3.) 3 c. of salad - just lettuce
2 lean hamburgers with pickles
1 hamburger bun
4.) 6 eggs ( 5 whites, 1 whole) 1/3c. salsa
1/2 of small plum, handful of grapes
2 pieces of healthy, homemade corn bread *
2 baby carrotts
5.) 1c. skim milk, mixed with scoop of whey
1 piece of corn bread
Total calories for the day: 2245
Probably more than I should have taken in, considering I only got in one workout this morning. :o
So I took one of my cornbread recipes and modified it. Though next time, I would like to cut the oil in half and put some applesauce or something in it.
Here is the recipe I came up with:
2 eggs ( next time substitute with 4 egg whites)
1 3/4c. of non fat milk
1/4 c. of white distilled vinegar
1 c. cornmeal
1 tsp. of baking soda
1 c. of Splenda
2 c. of whole wheat flour
1 c. of canola oil ( next time I am going to halve this and put applesauce in it or something.)
1 tsp. of salt
Mix. Bake in a 9x13pan that has been "oiled" with a non stick spray. Bake at 400 Farenheit for 15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Totally calories for the entire pan is aaproximately 3566 calories. If you divide it into 20 equal pieces, each piece is roughly 175 calories. And like I said, if you substitute egg whites and cut the oil in half, you can cut the calories down a bit.
Anyway, it tasted GREAT. It isn't that lovely shade of yellow because of the whole wheat flour. More like a light tan. But it sure does taste like cornbread.
Onward and Upward...

slush_puppy Mon, October 10th, 2005, 12:17 AM Wow, this weekend was way harder than last weekend. I did ok but I was one cranky @#$&%... anyway, I survived and I'm happy to be getting back to work where I can run my diet schedule so much easier. It's just tough when the rest of the family's around and eating stuff and the kitchen's always there.
Hope you all did ok, too. I didn't log or keep track of anything. Getting through was enough work on it's own for me, thanks.

Amen Slush! I don't keep really accurate records on the weekend, it drives me nuts. I was a grouch also! Although not as grouchy as when I was low carbing it and trying to make weight.
here's to the start of another week! keep it up everyone!
M3kamikaze Mon, October 10th, 2005, 02:35 AM I didn't log or keep track of anything. Getting through was enough work on it's own for me, thanks.
I TOTALLY agree with that.
Anyways, I've kind of stopped keeping track of what I've been eating for the past week or so. I eat pretty much the same clean foods and meals everyday, so it's not like I don't know how many calories, macro whatevers I have.
Sunday was Day 15 for me, and it's getting easier. There are still a lot of temptations, but I just won't give in. I think of it this way, if I give in to any tiny minscule amount of non clean food or alcohol, then it will wipe away 15 consecutive days of pure dedication. I wouldn't want that. And so, I continue to eat and drink clean.
Starting Monday, I'll start logging my foods again and possibly post in here more.
lance02 Mon, October 10th, 2005, 05:11 PM Tough weekend here also.
Afraid my eating wasn't that clean -- let's see, I remember a beer, a small ice cream, and a piece of apple pie.
I'm back on track now. Week days are definitely easier for me. Today has been very good so far.

WHAT!?!?! You cheated?!?! No, I am just giving you a hard time. ;) It happens. Get back on track and regroup, refocus! It usually helps to focus on what led you to the meltdown. Thenyou can figure out how to overcome it next time.

I like the word "a" in this case rather than numbers. Weekdays are so much easier since there is somewhat of structure. Weekends are hard for me because I don't know where I'll be, where I'll have to go, how long I'll be there for, how much or if I can take food with me, etc. I'm sure all of us have this problem to a certain extent. Good luck
slush_puppy Mon, October 10th, 2005, 10:37 PM Just checking in, not going to post the diet, but I was right on target, same as my other days. It's nice to be away from the kitchen all day. :D
I'm really excited because I quit my current job today (which was ok, but not ideal). Anyway, I was offered my "holy grail" of jobs... software architect for a great company. And one of the best parts is that it's only ten minutes from my house, you can't beat that. My old job took me about 30-45 minutes to drive to depending on traffic. So anyway, it was a very good day altogether here. Now I'm just going to have to explain my strange eating habits to a whole new set of people.

Congratulations on the new job! :gl: What does a software architect do? BTW, my father is an architect. He and another guy own their own architectural firm. Not too large - around 15 employees, but they stay fairly busy. WTG on eating clean also.
My diet for the day:
1.) 1 scoop of whey, serving of shredded wheat, skim milk
2.)5x1 omelette, apple, almonds
3.)PWO protein shake (whey, milk, fruit)
4. protein pancakes, carrotts
5.) hamburger and some salad
6. PWO protein shake
lance02 Tue, October 11th, 2005, 09:27 AM Boxer/M3kamikaze - Thanks for the words of encouragement! I am back on track...
Diet yesterday was right on, except I could have drank a bit more water. I am re-committed and ready to finish out this challenge. For me the challenge will be ending next Friday (21st) as I'll be leaving for vacation for a week. Going to Disneyworld, first time for my family. We'll be there a week. Going to camp to save on costs. But, I think because of that I should be able to eat cleaner than if I were in a hotel. Will be taking "good" foods along, but I "am" on vacation, so will also indulge a bit.
All that said, my goal is that for the next 10 days, I eat completely clean. My reward will be not only having a few treats on vacation, but also the satisfaction in knowing that I have done this challenge successfully (minus by badddddd weekend a couple of days ago!).
Continued good luck and success to the rest of you!
lance02 Tue, October 11th, 2005, 09:28 AM Slush - Congratulations on your new job! Have fun and it...

Is that at Fort Wilderness? My family just went down about a month ago for four days and we stayed at the Wilderness Lodge across the lake. We had a great time. $$$$ for the trip and all my 4 yr old son talks about was the air hockey game in the hotel game room. But it was great riding Splash Mountain and Space Mountain with my daughter. Good times!

Yes, Fort Wilderness. Looking forward to it, leave on 10/21, and come back on 10/30. A much needed vacation. It's teacher convention time here in WI, so kids will only miss a couple of days of school.
Boxer-in-training Tue, October 11th, 2005, 05:30 PM Have fun down at DisneyWorld. My husband and I went there for our honeymoon like 11 years ago and coincidentally stayed at the Wilderness lodge. It was pretty brand new when we were there. We had a ball and were there for 8 nights. Yeah, eating clean there would be a bit of a challenge. Way too much good food. Especially in Epcot Center.
jasoncurry29 Tue, October 11th, 2005, 09:15 PM 1- soymilk/banana/whey shake
2- cottage cheese/banana
3- turkey sandwich/ apple
4- peanut butter sandwich
5- flank steak with veggies
this is good. Hopefully I'll start seeing that scale go down.
slush_puppy Wed, October 12th, 2005, 09:36 AM I didn't really have any "temptations" yesterday, but I had this very strong "oh, what's the point" urge, like I just felt like giving up. Sometimes it's hard to see progress even when it's there and sometimes it just feels like I'm swimming as hard as I can against a current that's too strong. I really felt like pulling the rip cord last night. This was before my workout. :d_frown:
But, fortunately, I didn't let it get to me and I pushed through, got a great workout in and stayed right on course... no cheats, not even clean cheats. It's funny, because this morning I have this other feeling of "what was I thinking???" and I'm so glad I didn't cave in. :tucool:
misterjingo Wed, October 12th, 2005, 09:44 AM Its good to see everyone is staying on track. Unfortunately I didn't do so well. I basically fell off the wagon, so to speak. Friday my wife had a suprise birthday party for me so of course I had some cake and a few beers. That wasn't so bad.
The next night we had an anniversary party for my in-laws. So we headed over to Costco and bought a bunch of crap food. You know the type: mini-quiches, chips, dip, typical hors d'oeuvres. So of course I went nuts and basically ate it that night for dinner. Plus more cake. If that was all there was then I would've just blown it off and started new the next day. But no-there had to be leftovers. No one would take them so I felt obligated to eat them over the next two days. I figured we spent quite a bit of money for this food so it was a shame to throw it away. ugh!
Then yesterday I had my little voice in my head tell me to eat more crap-that it was ok b/c I would just start again today. It was almost like I was on auto-pilot. I feel like there is a little devil inside me that I need to fight at all times to do what I need to do.
So last night and this morning I've been really pissed at myself. I made myself get up early and do cardio before going to work. I've always known that I'm a huge procrastinator, and its affecting everything I do-from work, to eating right, to just living my life. I've decided that I'm not going to do that anymore!! So I'm starting over this challenge. My family is going on a cruise starting November 18th. One of my goals is to eat clean until that day. Dammit I WILL do this!!
lance02 Wed, October 12th, 2005, 10:13 AM Slush - way to go, avoiding temptation -- that's will power!
misterjingo - I can relate as this past weekend was difficult for me as well. You've got the right attitude -- get back on that horse, eat clean, and you'll be ready to enjoy your trip in a month.
lance02 Wed, October 12th, 2005, 10:23 AM Clean eating yesterday, including tilapia for dinner. I love tilapia! And with tuna for lunch, I guess it was fish day!
On the workout front, my 10 year old son has decided to try running with me. We've been at it for the last 1.5 weeks. He is doing really good, up to 4 miles. We are planning for both of us to enter a Thanksgiving 5k run, and my wife and other kids are planning to volunteer at the event. Should be fun, the 10 year old is excited, and it helps to give him something to train for. He's normally not a morning person, but has been getting up at 5:30 am to run, usually has to wake me to get going. It's cool to see when your good habits rub off on your kids. I suppose the same is true for bad habits, so that's a good reason to do the "right" things!
Boxer-in-training Thu, October 13th, 2005, 03:18 PM How's everyone doing with the eating clean? I have had a sinus cold for the past few days, so feel like crap and haven't been eating much of anything. Blech!
That is cool that you are running with your son lance!
jasoncurry29 Thu, October 13th, 2005, 09:27 PM I won't list everything but I'll be around 2200 calories of good clean food today.....I definetly be in for a november challenge...except thanksgiving!

I'm sneezy, dopey, tired, feel icky.
Here is my food for the day... not much
1 scoop of whey with water
apple
plum
stir fry chicken with some vegetables
protein shake
I have tried to stay well hydrated though. I don't know what my calories were today. 1,000 or so. I hate colds, not much appetite.
lance02 Fri, October 14th, 2005, 08:54 AM Boxer - Get better quick -- no fun being sick.
Diet yestderday was right on.
7 AM - oatmeal, protein smoothie
10 AM - almonds, apple
12 PM - tuna sandwich, protein smoothie
2 PM - yogurt, apple
3 PM - carrots
6 PM - spaghetti (whole wheat noodles), broccoli, milk

Water for the day = 125 oz.
Weekend is quickly approaching. I WILL do better this weekend. Continued success to the rest of you!
M3kamikaze Fri, October 14th, 2005, 09:44 PM I didn't really have any "temptations" yesterday, but I had this very strong "oh, what's the point" urge, like I just felt like giving up.
MAN, you hit it right on the spot. I feel like that for a couple minutes out of each day, but then I sit down for a few minutes, gather my thoughts, remind myself of my goals, and then proceed onwards in the correct direction. It really does take a lot of motivation and dedication, but I find that taking a little me time when I have bad food thoughts really makes me not give in.
Clean eating yesterday, including tilapia for dinner. I love tilapia! And with tuna for lunch, I guess it was fish day!
I like tilapia as well. I'm not so much a tuna fan, but I manage to spice it up with some homemade salsa and egg whites. I eat A LOT of fish. Most nights its either fresh catfish (favorite), salmon steak, regular salmon, tilapia, cod, croaker, etc. Fish goes well especially since I steam chicken breasts every day.
How's everyone doing with the eating clean? I have had a sinus cold for the past few days, so feel like crap and haven't been eating much of anything. Blech!
Hope you feel better in the next few days.
I'm still eating clean. Today was a little high on the fat since I had already had some PB earlier and then I grilled salmon steak (w/ olive oil).

Boxer-in-training Sat, October 15th, 2005, 01:19 AM I had this very strong "oh, what's the point" urge, like I just felt like giving up.
I feel like that a lot lately. I know what you mean! Working out is the easy part. But you have to think about food a lot during the day! Good for you for being strong.
Me, today.... low grade fever, lots of sneezing, congestion. I did get in one workout however.
Eating for today:
breakfast: shredded wheat /skim milk/ scoop of whey with water.
PWO shake
taco salad, lots of salsa. no sour cream or guacomole or dressing, or chips though. :D
cottage cheese, bowl of granola with blueberries and milk
yogurt
appetite is still down, but that is not a bad thing. I can't really taste anything, because nose is stuffed up, so I don't have any wicked cravings.
jasoncurry29 Sat, October 15th, 2005, 12:19 PM Ok.... I'm still having trouble with controlling my appetite.... I come home from work and boom! I sometimes don't even put my backpack down..I'm in the refridgerator!... I'm eating peanut butter, whole grain bread, cottage cheese.....All clean food...but to much.... then I start feeling guilty ...start looking on the web for new succesful diet schemes..... is this an eating disorder?...I guess it is... I never thought I'd have one... But I've decided that maybe all the carbs in my diet are causing my cravings to go up. So as of today (unless I convince my self other wise say around 7 or 8 tonight) I'm going to do low carb..but clean low carb...no bacon and cheese fests ;) then I add a refeed meal of carbs every 3 days or something. Your input is very welcome!

I didn't eat much yesterday. I was in a rush to get somewhere and didn't have a chance to make food or eat before I left. Then I got home and it was late. It really is hard to take meals on the go especially when you don't know when you'll get to eat them, if at all. Or maybe I'm just not good at it yet.

How long are you at work for? Can you or do you take meals with you while you're at work? It's not bad that in you're in the fridge right after work as long as it's been 3-4 hours since your last meal.
... I'm eating peanut butter, whole grain bread, cottage cheese.....All clean food...but to much....
Are you sure it's too much? Are you tired of no variety? Do you have your meals planned out for you ahead of time? Do you eat at the same time every day?
After I finish eating a meal I'm satisfied. Not overly full or stuffed, but I don't want to eat anymore, because I know I'll have to eat in a few hours. My meals are usually 300 calories or so. Also, do you measure your food with a scale or measuring cup? If you have these handy, you'll use them and you'll know how much you can allow yourself to eat during any given day.
then I start feeling guilty
you have to take things slow. i allowed myself two weeks when i started to get into a habit of eating clean. i didn't concentrate on cardio, weight lifting or anything else. i would mess up but then i would correct myself and learn from the experience.
...start looking on the web for new succesful diet schemes.....
you won't find any successful diet schemes that don't say you have to have a healthy diet and excercise regularly. for something to be successful, YOU must to be successful. YOU are the motivator. YOU want to change. YOU have to have to stick with a plan. YOU are the only one that matters in that equation. You have to hold yourself accountable, and we can help.
is this an eating disorder?...I guess it is... I never thought I'd have one...
It's not an eating disorder. You just have to reorder the way you think about things. You need to make a plan and stick with it. STICK WITH IT being the key phrase. This will build up your confidence. In the worst case scenario, you won't see a change physically. BUT, you'll feel a change mentally. You'll know that you persevered through it and it'll change the way you feel and think about yourself forever.
lance02 Mon, October 17th, 2005, 02:58 PM Weekend was pretty good. Ate clean, but didn't drink enough water. Exercise was so-so, had a good workout last night.
Boxer-in-training Mon, October 17th, 2005, 06:24 PM Back and feeling a little better. Been using Zycam and it seems to work some. ALthough I also have a fever blister on my lip... lovely  SO hopefully the Abreva will speed up healing for that one.
Anyway, did pretty good for the weekend, but not perfect. Don't flog me please. I had 2 little caramels without even thinking about it. Was chatting with someone, and STUCK THEM IN MY MOUTH! Without even thinking about it. Man, oh man. When I was done. I thought " What have I just done!" Guilt, beyond guilt.
Anyway, rest of the weekend went a bit better.
Hope you guys did better than I did. It sounds like lance and M3kamakaze are doing pretty good... and Jason also!
And slush - where you at? haven't heard from you in a few days. Pull your head out of the bag of Swedish Fish. ( just kidding) ;)

M3kamikaze - Thanks for your reply... What you had to say was very true... my big thing has been sticking with it... I was pretty succesful initially...losing about 40 lbs ... I'm trying to get to 10% bodyfat...currently about 14%. I do not do well cutting my calories to low... I find my self in the refridgerator all the time.... anyway been low carbing it for 3 days now.... it's doable... tomorrow is a carb day so I'll eat some oatmeal. Thanks again.

We're all in this together. You're doing a good job. I hope to be at your bf% in a few months; as long as I stick with it. Long-term stuff isn't my thing usually, so I might need someone to speak up about me later.
The last meal was larger than it needed to be, but after my so-called dinner of fish, I left the house full as all hell around 8:30PM and didn't get back till 2:15AM. Poker as usual.
I got my calories back up to a normal amount. I'm trying to lose at a slower rate b/c it's been -3 lbs each week, which ain't no good. Ideally this is how much I should be eating everyday in order to lose 1-2/week.

5x1 omelette, salsa, pear
M3kamikaze Wed, October 19th, 2005, 01:39 AM Not a good day today in terms of eating all my meals. I woke up REALLY late since I couldn't go to bed and didn't get in the rhythm I'm usually in. Still clean food, but not nearly enough of it. I'd also like to say that I don't crave for alcohol as much as I did last week and the weeks before that. I MIGHT do this clean eating/drinking no cheating challenge for longer than a month, but we'll see. Halloween is coming up...
Boxer-in-training, I hope you're 100% now.

Had tilapia last night. Tuna for lunch the last couple of days.
Today's breakfast included a protein smoothie and an omelet.
Water intake has been very good, about 150 oz/day.
Starting to pack for Disney...hoping the hurricane takes a more southerly route. We leave this Friday, should arrive in Orlando late Sat afternoon.
So, this challenge is just about done for me. I'll be in it until we leave, on Friday afternoon.
M3kamikaze Fri, October 21st, 2005, 10:42 AM Where is everyone?
Wednesday and Thursday were just like Tuesday...not eating much. Still clean foods when I eat. Today is different, I'm on track with my meals today and not playing catch up. Since tracking my intake, I've noticed that when I dip way below my target calories for cutting, I won't lose any weight. But when I get my calories higher and on target, the weight comes off. It makes sense if you think about your metabolism. The only good side effect of these past few days is that I'm losing weight at a slower pace.
Day 24 - 10/19/05 Meals consisted of:

Lance: have a great time on vacation, and thanks for joining the challenge!
M3kamikaze: You're doing GREAT! I love those times of refeeding also. When you can add a few more calories and it jump starts the metabolism again.
I am feeling a lot better. Still trying to get rid of this fever blister on my lip!
lance02 Fri, October 21st, 2005, 11:07 AM I finished strong!
Thanks for the challenge Boxer! It has been fun, but "challenging"!
I'm officially signing out of the challenge, and am off on vacation!
Continued success and good luck to everyone...

Have a GREAT vacation!
M3kamikaze Sat, October 22nd, 2005, 12:45 AM Well like I said earlier today, I was back on track with my meals today. I ran out of oats yesterday, so I decided I'd indulge in lots of eggs WITH YOLK. I haven't eaten the yolk in like 3 weeks! In a few days, I'm going to get rid of some of the bread, because I think it's too much, so I'll probably switch over to brown rice. And I'll add back cottage cheese and still I need more veggies/fruit/stuff.
Hopefully Lance will have a good vacation and not get messed up by the hurricane.
As for fever blisters......:spaz:
Saturday morning I'll have some of my first cardio in a long while. I get to help a friend load a large lot of scaffolding that he sold on eBay. Should take nearly all day. It was either that or go to to the Ole Miss/Kentucky game. Too many temptations down in Oxford, MS.

yeah, my challenge is ending soon. Halloween will be a nice cheat day for sure. I have upped my calories and my ratios have been up. More carbs than protein and I have put on some weight. But that is o.k. as I needed to. Now I just need to reign it back in, so I don't put on anymore. i really don't want to buy new clothes. LOL
M3kamikaze Mon, October 24th, 2005, 12:38 PM i've been sick for the past two days. it's getting worse...ugh
been sleeping alot. not eating anything. soup sounds good right now.
oct 27 is my 31st day. i don't know what i'll do after that.
halloween is just another day.
i'd like to know if any of you folks want to continue the challenge after halloween?

Sorry, I didn't mean to send the cold germs to you over the internet. Being sick sucks big time. Hope you feel better soon.
Are you thinking about another 30 day challenge or what? To go until Thanksgiving. That might work. We could start a new thread. Man, let me think about it though. It takes a lot of work mentally, that is for sure!
jasoncurry29 Mon, October 24th, 2005, 10:16 PM At least this challenge..believe it or not has helped me focus less on when my next cheat meal will be.... I just kind of eat clean...and don't worry about it.... so I'm in ...if we do it
M3kamikaze Tue, October 25th, 2005, 02:32 AM Are you thinking about another 30 day challenge or what? To go until Thanksgiving.
I was thinking about it. I'm going to wait till after Halloween before I give an answer. I was just throwing the idea up in the air. We still have a few more days left, so keep up the good work everyone.

 I may just go back to doing a cheat once a week instead of going a whole month. It is easy for me to focus and eat super clean when I have to make weight for a fight. But when I have nothing coming up, it is a lot harder mentally, that is for sure.
Even when eating clean this challenge, my portions at times have been larger than they should be.
With that said, here is yeterday's eating:
1 scoop whey with water, healthy zucchini bread
protein shake
protein shake
ham sandwich and veggies
broccoli soup
Can you tell that I needed to go shopping? LOL

Tuesday, Day 30 for me. I'm DONE!!! :claphigh: I don't know what I'm going to do with myself now. I've gotten a lot of rest these past few days, so I'm feeling about 80% right now. Hopefully tomorrow, it won't be so cold and the temperature will quit fluctuating, which really agitates my nose.
Wednesday, I'm going to have a couple beers, play in a poker tourney, and go bowling. I'm not really craving any unclean food, but I might as well  eat something bad to make the day worthwhile.
I think I'll just do the one cheat per week (cheat meal? or cheat day? hmm..) thing as well so I stay sane. Thanks for starting this challenge! It really held me accountable and I got to know some of you a tiny bit. I'll be following those journals. I lost 8 lbs the past thirty days and formed a clean eating habit. I'll check back in here tomorrow to see how the rest of you are doing.

Awesome stuff! You lost 8lbs. that is great! As for me, I put on about 4-5 lbs. :D But I needed to. I was too skinny.
What an inspiration! Glad to hear you did well with it. I will end my challenge tomorrow. Look out Halloween candy, here I come... well, in moderation. ;)
Boxer-in-training Thu, October 27th, 2005, 11:44 AM And this girl is done as well! Thanks for all that participated. ( now give me some candy!) :D
