Anyone know how prednisone might affect a fitness program? I heard that it can make a person gain weight. Anyone have any experience taking this medication and working out?

its one of the potential side effects. if your doctor presribed it though for something im sure the good will outweigh potential bad.

No doubt. (Just a temporary thing for severe allergies, btw.) Just wanted to see if anyone had any experience with this.

I took it once for poison ivy. I was gross. Cleared up very fast and I had no side effects. I wasnt anal about my weight though at the time. That was a few years back so if I gained any weight it ceratinly was not noticable.

Prednisone! The miracle drug!

I have a standing prescription for Prednisone because it keeps my asthma at bay when I get sick - the instant I get a bug in me, it goes straight for my lungs and makes it feel like I'm breathing through a straw. I've been using Prednisone since I first got adult-onset asthma was 21 years old... while I haven't had to use it extensively over the past two years since losing my weight, I have used it several times for extended periods (up to two weeks) with no adverse effects - weight gain will only be a problem, as usual, if you go overboard with your nutritional needs.

The other thing is, it makes me feel indestructible. It takes away every ache, pain, groan, creak... it makes me feel awesome. I hide it from myself way in the back of the medicine cabinet because it's tempting to abuse the stuff, it makes you feel so good.

One side effect that hits me hard is the sleeplessness. I highly suggest that you finish your daily dosage a minimum of five hours before you want to sleep, otherwise you'll never get to bed. I have enough problems with sleeping and getting to sleep, but if I get really sick and my doctor ups my dosage more than normal, I've literally had bouts where I didn't sleep for up to 36 hours.

The other important thing to note is that you should drink copious amounts of water with it.
