Hi everyone,

My name is Dave and I am a new memeber here. My stats are 6'0"-6'1" 244lbs I don't know my body fat % but on the BMI scale it says I'm in the 33% range. I am looking to lose weight and build some muscle. I am currently a volunteer firefighter, striving to become a fulltime firefighter. I need some help with diet and exercise. I want to lose around 40-50lbs. I eat a lot of carbs (white rice) doesn't help being chinese as rice is a staple of chinese food. I have done the low carb diet (eliminating all carbs, such as no rice and no pasta. I do eat multi-grain bread. I have recently started eating salad/w grilled chicken and hard boiled eggs for lunch. I do not always eat breakfast. I may eat a Nutri-grain bar or two sometimes. I have been trying to cut out soda and started drinking a lot of water recnetly. I recently got hurt at work and cannot go to the gym because it was my left hand that was hurt.

Thanks in advance
Dave

Have you read the stickies at the top of this forum, Dave? All the help you need is there - once you've digested it, formulate your plan and ask your questions. Fitness is all about taking the initiative.

How long will you be out of commission due to your hand injury? It is extremely important that your approach to fitness include the big three: (1) Proper nutrition, (2) Weight training, and (3) cardiovascular activity.

Read up, work out a plan you think you can live with, and present it for critique and adjustment. Good luck.

There needs to be a way for those stickied threads to get read before people make their first posts.

Maybe John could put in a feature for new members where when they click the "New Thread" button, it instantly redirects them to bright colors and pictures showing them what to read.
(hopfully this would be done in crayon, but i guess photoshop would work too)

Before I got hired by the Police Dept. I was a LT. in the volunteer fire dept. Had to resign due to "conflict of interest". Anyway - do lots of compound excercises. I'd also suggest getting a weighted backpack and hit the stairs. Lots of them!!!!!!     :tu:
