i lift 3x a week, and after a session i do about 14minutes of HIIT on a recumbent bike, as well as 10 minutes at a low intensity.

my PWO meal is an apple, tuna and beans.

3x a week i do 24 minutes of HIIT my PWO meal for that is also an apple, tuna and beans.

my questioN:

im reading now that after a HIIT only day i should eat protein/fats. should i drop the beans for two hours after i do the HIIT? should i keep the apple in there for some simple sugars??

what about on days where i do weights and a shorter HIIT session- protein/fats again or should i stick with the beans. Is the apple good to have at all ???

After a weight training workout the first priority is to replinish glycogen stores and ingest simple aminos to begin the recovery process. Having said that, a fat/protein meal only would not be a very beneficial thing to do.

So how does a post workout shake fit in, and what about a good protein/carb meal within an hour of time?

Specifically tomorrow I weight train at 11am. Afterwards I have a pwo shake immediately. Then within the hour 5 egg whites and a cup of cut up melon. Is that the kind of thing you are talking about?

Sorry I don't understand all the science. Pardon my ignorance.

i'm not sure about the science part either, but based on my research in the archives and stickies here i now have a protein shake after my workout, then follow with a good protein-rich full meal within an hour. this sounds similar to what you are doing.

i'm sure it's not optimum, but i'm seeing great gains in my strength and size, so i'm going to stick with it :tu:

I think Elberto hit it right on the head...do what works. Is your current set up working? Is it working as well as you would like? If so, keep it up. However, since you are asking about it I assume perhaps it is not working as well as you might like in which case Swole is certainly the right guy to be talking to as well...Good luck!

3x a week .... also an apple, tuna and beans.

My wife thinks you might be in for mercury poisoning with all that tuna.

OK well I looked it up. According to the FDA, you have to eat more than two pounds a week of tuna to be pushing the methyl mercury recommendation. THey don't think many people eat that much fish.

But if you were eating six ounces of tuna each of the six times then you'd be getting there.

Now if you are eating other fish for other meals, you have to put that in - the mercury exposure is cumulative.

Thank you for the reply. I'm really not sure how well my diet/weight/cardio is going. Maybe because I'm sort of new to all this still. Judging by my weight nothing is happening. But we all well know that isn't the best way to judge. No pun intended. :o My wife says she doesn't notice any difference and that after 3 months it may show. I guess she has all the common sense in the family. :d_biggrin By the tape I've lost about .6% bodyfat. That is .6% not 6%. And I don't know how accurate that is.

I hope I have the willpower to keep going w/o seeing any definite results for a while. Sometimes the feeling of being insecure regarding self-image is what is bothersome. Hopefully that will pass when some results start showing up.
