View Full Version : Chest!! HELP!!
kennethchan Tue, September 6th, 2005, 12:04 AM Yes my pecs are uneven. The left one is more cut, the part by the arm and the inner part of my left pec. I have been trying to work my right more somehow, but I'm not really sure how to. Please can someone name some specific exercises I can do to work out my right pec way more. Yes I have tried lowing the weights on benching and perfecting my form, but it seems as though, everytime I do that, my left chest is getting the better work out.

Are you a lefty or a righty???? If you're a righty this means your right peck should have more bulk than your left, leaving it less "cut" looking and more rounded. My right arm used to be bigger than my left until a few extreme diets which evened everything up. But when the right arm was bigger, the left was always more "cut" looking.

Not nessessarily true. I'm righty but my left side (particularly my bicep) is slightly larger than my left. In my infinite wisdom i've concluded that I do most lifting with my left side and coordinate the weight with my right. Does that make sense?
Gordo Tue, September 6th, 2005, 06:35 AM Less barbell exercises and more dumbbell work is the order of the day. That'll help even things out.
Plus as you add mass *this is apparantly more key than anything* The uneveness will go away.
Symmetry is hard to achieve so don't sweat it....it's a criteria for the pros and even they have to really work on it. Sometimes it's hard to fight genetics, you aren't a perfect mirror image (well most of us). It's like your abs you can't fight their placement. If they are offset, then they are offset, nothing you can do about it.
kennethchan Tue, September 6th, 2005, 06:59 PM yea i am right handed, and my left pec is more "cut" looking. i think it may be the way i lift, say when i bench. i try to get perfect form, but somehow my left pec just uses more strength. what are some dumbbell exercises, i can do with only my right arm? since i mostly only use bars, i dont know many chest dumbbell exercises i can do with only 1 arm.

Hmmm, possibly. I'd certainly feel more confident guiding weighted objects with my right side and using my left as the constant pressure point so I see where you're coming from.
It must vary from person to person. For me, my right side got bigger due to my back pack in highschool with pretty darn heavy books which I always carried with my right arm. I would also tend to lean to the right a bit when benching.
BiT Tue, September 6th, 2005, 11:23 PM Don't worry too much about it. Your body likes equilibrium and will more or less even itself out eventually.
On the chest aspect though, there will always be little discrepencies. Ask any woman out there if their breast are the same and I bet they'll tell you that they aren't.
Gordo Tue, September 6th, 2005, 11:35 PM You can't really do single dumbell exercises to "fix" the uneveness. But by doing dumbell versions of chest exercises....it allows each muscle to compensate individually and work independently. It's the best way to correct the issue at hand....that and time.
So instead of flat/incline/decline barbell bench press....do dumbell benchpress for a while... that sort of thing. Stick to basics. You could add cable crossovers or various dumbell flys to help with definition....but if the mass isn't there....don't waste your time and stick to the basics.
