I seem to be, and have been, for the last 3 months or so, experiencing an aching pain in my outer left forearm while I work out. It seems to only occur when I am working my biceps, usually doing a barbell curl and concentration curls. Basically starts during my 2nd set of 80lbs. Im not huge by any means (5'9--160lbs) and my max set is about 100 on barbell curls. Just wondering if there is a certain way to get rid of the pain as well as what is it that is causing it, and is it serious? The pain is not there when im not working out, but when I was playing baseball a couple weeks ago, throwing in balls from the outfield was pain to the extreme on the actual throw. (Im a lefty)

BB curls with a straight bar? They can create a fair amount of "shear" so you do need to be careful. You might try very slightly moving your grip in or out. You could also try experimenting with the easy curl bar. Finally, switching to DB's can also help but you'll be getting a little different workout of course.

Acutally I do barbell curls with the easy curl bar, same with concentration curls. I do dumbell curls as well, standing up. Any other reason why this is being caused?

Then try switching to the straight bar. Sometimes it is as simple as finding the right tool.

Is it consisten even when you do light weight? Have you ever injured that area?

maybe I'll try switching to the straight bar. I havent injured that area before so thats why Im a little concerned. Like I said, when I was playing baseball a few weeks ago and tossin that ball in, my arm was killing me, and thats what concerned me most, was that it could be a long term injury.

Did you first notice the pain while throwing?

I've had similiar (if not the same) pain for quite a while now. I've even tried taking a couple weeks off with no luck. It's in my left arm. I notice it when lifting but that's about it. Also when picking up my 25 lb toddler up certain ways. I'm pretty sure it's some sort of tendonitis. It hasn't gotten worse or better for me so I'm living with it. It's in my left arm only. I can do chin ups and concentration curls without pain. But standing dumbbell or easy curl stuff causes it to hurt a bit.

If you decide to get some treatment or whatnot keep this thread up to date. I'd be curious what it is and what type of treatment you use.

Thanks,

Jesse

My buddy, who plays baseball said it sounds like tendonits, but I did some reading on it, and tendonitis occurs at the joints apparently. this pain im having is not in the joints but in the middle of my forearm. so im baffled to say the least. a guy told me to go with a straight bar when i do the barbell curl to start off my bicep workout. i'll be doing that thurs and i'll post on friday to let you know if the pain was there or not.
