Hello,

My name is Steve and at 36 years old, I have been diagnosed with CAD, coronary artery disease. And as one might understand, this was my wake up call to get back into shape.

I am 6'4" and 240 at the moment. I have actually lost 15 pounds by eating the correct foods, at the right time (5-6 small meals a day) and exercising. I have not yet added the weight training, but it is coming. To look at me you would not think that I was that over weight, but my heart says I am.

I found John's web site nearly a year ago and have looked at it for inspiration, but I never did anything to get going. I hate to say it had to come to a heart problem to get me going. I will be looking to everyone on the forums for advice and inspiration as well, so be prepared for questions!!

While you are reading this, let me take the opportunity to let everyone know that if you are near my age, I guess it doesn't really matter how old you are, I suggest that you have your doctor schedule a stress test for you.

I am a firefighter.......you know.....I am the big tough guy that goes into burning buildings. I look healthy enough, right? Wrong!!

I was sent by my department to do the stress test, a random test mind you, and I was pissed that I had to go waste my time for this thing.

I am very glad I did. 60% blockage in one artery. 10% more and I would not be allowed to keep my job. Time to get in shape!!

John, thanks for this website! I hope to make the progress you have.

Nothing like a Slap with reality to get you going :) But be glad it happened this way instead of having your buddies doing mouth to mouth on you :P..

Good luck and we are all here looking for ways to be healthy so if you have any questions ask away

The live version of that song on "decade of decadence" is quite possibly one of the best live recordings of any band EVER.

That I've heard anyway.

my neighbor, who was quite skinny had a heart attack last year. She was 62 though and she had cholestrol problems, so it is not the same situation as yourself however, it seems to me that stress plays a bigger role in heart conditions than couple lbs of excess fat. (well, her son was making her quite upset, a major source of stress)

your job seems to be quite stressful, so I would recommend you to search for ways to cope with stress as well as getting fit.Stress alone can clog your arteries..

It is perfect that you got that info at an early stage.. Keep up with doctors advices and monitor your heart periodically, you will do great...

peace

btw, I dont intend to tell you that you should not lose weight. At your height, you should lose at least 40 lbs... Do it safely according to the doctors advices, as an addition to that, if you have stress problems, take care of them as well
