Hello,

Quick introduction. My name is Rod Silvestri. I’m 34 and I’m prepared to making a transformation and commit to a healthier lifestyle that I hope will last a lifetime. I just feel ready. I recently stopped smoking, drinking and eating horribly (just completed my fourth week). I loved all things bad for me: cheeseburgers and loads of french fries, pizza, beer, ice cream, cigarettes, mexican food loaded with cheese, pasta by the large plateful…you get the idea. Not that I will not indulge in everything (except for the cigarettes and beer) during my weekly cheat meal…at least for a while.

I’m very happy I found my way here. This seems like a very cool and supportive community. My goal in being here is to stay motivated, learn and eventually provide support for other members. Also, in building relationships I’m hoping I feel somewhat accountable to the people I meet.

I’m 204 lbs and 5’10”. I have an athletic build naturally. At the moment I’m very dissatisfied with what I’ve done to my body since graduating from college. I feel fortunate that I am making this transformation before I really let myself spin out of control. I realize that another year or two of the lifestyle I was living would have put me in far worse shape because I ate like it was my job.

I’ve been working out since college (1990). However, it’s never been more consistent than one year and there were constant breaks from my routine for 3-6 months. I’ve never been consistent in any way with my diet post 1990. When I was living at home my diet was very good (lots of vegetables, fruits and lean meats). I ate what my mother put in front of me, it was healthy and I didn’t question it. As a kid we never had junk food of any sort in the house. When at the grocery store if I asked for a candy bar I got grapes. I guess that is why when I left for college I felt some freedom to eat whatever I wanted. I guess I’m just ready now to get back to my roots.

Anyway, I look forward to learning from all of you.

Take it easy and have a great weekend everyone!

Regards,
Rod

Welcome! Great attitude, and good luck with your new commitment. This place will take you there, if you let it...

Remember one thing: try for yourself before asking us to do it for you. The number one credo I think most of those who stay here for any length of time believe is that you must attempt to learn the basic tenets for yourself. Read these forums and try to decipher your own nutritional and exercise needs, then ask for help evaluating the plan you draw up. I, for one, love to see people trying; it makes me that much more confident that you'll succeed and the assistance the forum provides you will be well-considered. I.e., you're learning and we're not wasting our time.

Good luck and welcome to the fold.

Bluestreak, I heard you loud and clear. I read some posts where a few individuals got mildly flamed for not doing their homework. It's in my nature to research and create my own opinions by considering information from various angles. So no worries there.....

In any case, thank you for the advice.

Rod
