View Full Version : Cardio not working?
thepump13 Fri, September 2nd, 2005, 11:55 AM Has anyone found that fasted cardio is NOT effective for fat loss...I have been doing approx 45-55 minutes at 70% max five days a week. I also lift 4 evenings a week. The fat is just not coming off. I am 5'8, 137 pounds, and approx 16% body fat (nice abs, but need to lose from arms!) Just wondering about others' experiences....
karatetricker Fri, September 2nd, 2005, 12:03 PM How's the diet looking?
A female at 5'8", 16% body fat and 137 lbs. is pretty damn good. Are you sure there's still fat to lose?

I totally agree and was wondering the same thing. How long have you been doing the cardio?
sigakoer Fri, September 2nd, 2005, 12:38 PM Indeed... Isn't 16% for women something like 10% for men? You ought to be in great shape already.
Anyway, obviously the answer is in the diet.

I agree with what others have said about diet... but I have a question... do you lift heavy? or are you doing light weight and high reps? if you are doing the later I would suggested starting to lift heavier with fewer reps... if your not keeping a log while you're working out you should start to and try to improve either the weight or the reps each work out... I hadn't been keeping track and I REALLY wish I had... I've made leaps and bounds in the past three weeks since my new trainer suggested that I keep that log and track my progress, always pushing for more... you may just need a bit more muscle...
how long have you been doing the fasted cardio? did you just start it or have you been doing it for 5 or 6 weeks? if it's only been a week or two you should give it more time... getting below 16% is hard and will take time, be patient and you'll see it come off ;) :gl:
Smooth Sat, September 3rd, 2005, 02:40 AM On the contrary, my semi-fasted cardio (just some whey) lately has given me great results fat loss wise! I'll post my pics up later.
But for your situation, you should already be looking damn fine as everyone else has mentioned. Only thing you can do is change what you eat or take fat-burning supplements if you're really in dire need to cut yourself so much.. but why??
thepump13 Sun, September 4th, 2005, 03:53 PM Thanks all for the advice and kind words...yes, I would say that I am in pretty good shape and have some good definition...but I want more! PARTICULARLY around my tricep area and lower back area. I have been doing the fasted cardio for about 3 months...just not seeing the results that I think I should. I do lift heavy but perhaps and I should increase even more?

Taper way back on the cardio and put more effort into your diet.

Skoorb Sun, September 4th, 2005, 07:38 PM Taper way back on the cardio and put more effort into your diet.:) I'd say up the cardio and put more effort in, but witout stating what the diet is here it's hard to say if more effort requires eating less or more or changing it up or whatever, but for my money if you want to accelerate fat loss you do more cardio (though diet is responsible for more than half of fat loss for most people, including myself).
