I'm unsure of how this is done also. I believe he means when you want to reply to multiple quoted questions from different posts. In other words respond to a question from X and also respond to a question from Y in the same post. Wait, now i'm confused.
O.K. see how the quote above this is surrounded by a square. How do you seperate and square different quotes or statements/questions you want to answer? (I think, again, i'm confused)

Like how I just quoted you how can I quote John's post in this post.
THANKS!
Yes!!!!! That's it.
John Stone Wed, August 31st, 2005, 09:25 PM Just do this text you want to quote
except replace "quot" with "quote" (I left the "e" off so vB wouldn't interpret the code.)
jmcalla Wed, August 31st, 2005, 09:28 PM Thanks, John and doordude (couldn't get the right words out)

O.K (I think) Thanx
I'm soooo computer illiterate it's sad. I have Jr. do all my avatars etc.
It would take me a month to figure this stuff out and i'm sure i'd blow this baby up in the process.
1FastGTX Thu, September 1st, 2005, 01:22 AM I have an awesome tricep in my avatar!
True!
Check out my abs!
Yeah man, they're ripped!
I wish I had John's abs and DoorDude's triceps!!!!
Click "Reply" by my post (on the right), and it will show you how I did this right in the reply.

Noob...
Just kidding. But it actually doesn't reply with nested quotes. Only PMs do that if I recall.
Doordude, do you understand how to quote different people though?

NOPE :o
volleyball Thu, September 1st, 2005, 04:25 PM NOPE :o
DoorDude,
When you reply to someone's message, you see the code (the stuff in brackets, like these [ ]) surrounding what they'd written. For instance, when I clicked to reply to your message above, I got:
NOPE
...at the top of my message window (but with the "E" in quote). I'm sure you've seen this before (and probably thought nothing of it, which is understandable).
If you were to copy and paste from the first QUOTE in brackets to the last "QUOTE" in brackets, you could replace the text (in this case, "NOPE") and the poster's name (in this case, you) with the new text and name you wanted to quote. (This assumes you know how to copy and paste -- and I don't say that to be flippant; plenty of folks are unsure how to do that. I'm sure Jr. can help there.)
What 1FastGX was demonstrating was that using that method, you can actually make up quotes, such as this:
I plan to make sure EACH and EVERY American citizen has a FULL HOUR a day to get their cardio or weight workout accomplished, with GYM ACCESS FOR ALL!
Of course, you're not President (yet), and you've never said that (yet), so I didn't pull that from another post -- I merely used the code to create it. In that fashion, you could scroll down in the "post creation" window to get to the other posters you wanted to quote, copy and paste the text and poster's name into the "QUOTE" code, and go from there.
If you flip through John's photo archive thread, you'll see several instances where he quotes and replies to six or seven folks, responding to them all in one post. When you click "reply" on a particular post, the system gives you the QUOTE tags and text for that post, but it doesn't prevent you from adding it as many times as you like.
Anyway, if I'm just confusing you, I apologize and perhaps it'll help someone else (I'm anal about trying to explain techy stuff to non-techy folks). :gl:

I just wanted to emphasize this point. It will only quote somebody if you click the "REPLY" button on the bottom right side of the post you want to quote. If you click on the "POST REPLY" button at the bottom of the thread, it WILL NOT automatically quote anybody.

Yup. Confused as ever! By the way, great avatar!!!!
michael2938 Thu, September 1st, 2005, 05:03 PM Yup. Confused as ever! By the way, great avatar!!!! Well you quoted me! so you know how to do that! It'd be easier if somebody could show you rather than type it out. All you need to do is copy & paste the text from whatever message you want to quote and put the at the begining and at the end just like you see when you quoted my message. Maybe your son can show ya! :)
I like your avatar better... Hopefully I will have one just like it someday! :tu:

I know, but I meant you could see HOW a quote was done. For instance I just clicked "Reply" by your post and I saw the QUOTE=Karatetricker...
Just replace "karatetricker" with the name of the person you want to quote, then replace the info in between [ and ] with what you want to write...

1FastGTX Thu, September 1st, 2005, 08:01 PM VBullitin should make a little Flash "how-to" video on how this is done. :)
I know it does sound confusing as heck but after you figure it out it's not too bad.

I imagine just like a chicken: peek and peck!
It's funny how you -state- you are bad at computers. I think it's a way of thinking most people could learn if they would just dare to. My father is 58, and after I had created a webpage for him, he opened the source html in a text editor and compared that to the way it looked on screen. I've never had to help him again! It's not so much his intelligence which has helped him in that respect, more so his boldness to learn new things. He peeks and pecks, as well, though.
So instead of asking DoorDude Jr., you could put aside your fear of the beige monster and just go at it. You can preview posts to see if it works. :tu:

I myself joined the "computer generation" about 1 year ago. I've already blown up 1 computer (literally) and have disabled this baby on more than a few occassions. I can freeze a computer faster than carbon dioxide gas!I think i'll opt for the lesson from Jr. Thanx anyway. :D

Ahh, I thought you meant he could see how you quoted multiple people. Either way, I was just messin' around.
Doordude (or anyone else), if you want to easily learn how to quote multiple people, copy and past the following into a reply but add e to the end of quot in all places. All you would do for real is put the person's username you want to quote in place of Person X and copy and paste his/her text where Person X's comment is here is.
----------------------------------------------
Person 1's comment is here
Your response here.
Person 2's comment is here
Your response here.
Person 3's comment is here
Your response here.
----------------------------------------------
Adding the 'e' to 'quot' would result in this:
Person 1's comment is here
Your response here.
Person 2's comment is here
Your response here.
Person 3's comment is here
Your response here.

I have to admit, my father has 50+ years experience in electrotechnics, so he's not a real noob.
Blowing up computers is just plain cool dude, how did you do it?!
Switched the 110/220 volt switch? Do they even have those these days?

No idea. I CAN tell you that I once brought my original (now deceased :d_frown: ) computer to best buy and the geek dude told me I had more viruses than he'd ever seen. A week after that it was dead. I'm tellin' ya, smoke was comin' out, it was making weird noises, the whole nine yards. When I brought it back they said something about me frying the mother board. Who knows.
On a good note, after many dollars that computer was ressurrected and is currently functioning well in Jr.s room. I'm pretty sure when I walk into the room it shuts some circuits down or does something to protect itself.
This computer is equipped with 4 seperate virus protectors and a bunch of other stuff. The geek said if I could blow this baby up, I'm the man. I'm working on it!! :D

Honestly, I think the frying of your motherboard has nothing to do with the amount of spyware and virii on your pc. However, I recognize your influence on pc's just by being present, because I have the opposite effect. Many people ask me to fix my computer, and when they want to show me, the problem disappears. I tell them: just be more friendly to it, they can sense that, you know! ;)

  To tell the truth, I think the vent fan was messed up which caused the computer to overheat. However the viruses !!!aye yae yae!!! That may have had something to do with some of the websites I visited. :o Anyway, after spending mucho dinero on this shit i'm a little gun shy. Know what I mean?

Yeah it amazes me how my friends spend so much time online and really have no idea about proper anti-virus software!
