I've been reading through these forums for the past several days and I have read many opinions on how much calories I should be getting daily but all of them were pretty "indirect"

I was wondering if anyoune could point me to a good article about how much I should be getting, or you can just tell me

As an example, today my breakfast was in the 265 Calorie range (Cereal and a bread bun) which I don't think is enough?

I'm currently 216lbs at 5'9

Oh and for John - Huge inspiration you are indeed. I'm on Week 1, already feeling better physically and have past up many temptations already. Thanks for the motivation

Most people hanging out around believe her agree you should start at 10x your weight in lbs. Do that for awhile, see what your results are and tweak it to fit you.

Another view on the same topic can be seen at this site, a good read: "http://www.hussman.org/fitness/".

As far as breakfast is concerned, I usually eat until I am full in the morning [good stuff only] because you will certainly burn that meal off. My typical breakfast is between 350-450 calories, usually quaker oats, skim milk, and sometimes toast from whole grain bread if I am not satisfied.

There are no definitive answers to these diet questions, you have to experiment and see what your body [and mind] responds to best.

I've never counted a single calorie, and I never plan to do so either. I use my common sense when I eat. Do I really need more food than this? Will I be happier if I eat this cake? Will I feel better tomorrow by watching TV for two hours or going out for a 3-mile run?

If you wanna lose weight, I believe the best thing is to read about what kinds of food is good for you, and what kinds you could live without. After that, choose good foods that you like, cook these for your everyday meals and eat quite a lot. This way you will get enough vitamins and stuff, but I think you'd still lose weight unless you SERIOUSLY over-eat. There's a lot more to eating than just the calories. If your diet is healthy you'll probably feel good, and look good, even though you get a few too many calories. As long as you keep the exercise up that would be a good way to go. I believe that anyway...

hmm i recommend taking down what u eat, cos i m into weight loss program for 5 weeks, i lost 3 kg on the first week then for the subsequent 3 weeks i lost nothing. i am damn disappointed. then i started counting my calories and realise i m taking less than 1000calories per day which may be the reason y i stop losign weight and that my body went into starvation mode. now in my 5th week i count my calories and i m down by 2 kg again..

That's why I wrote that you should eat a lot (along with getting enough vitamins). The body needs energy, even though you're trying to get rid of fat. Undereating isn't just slowing down your metabolism, it's also hurting your body. To eat a good meal three times a day along with 1-3 snack-meals consisting of fruit or something like that should take weight off your body. 1000 kcal isn't much. I checked my calorie-intake once just for fun, and I get 3000-3500 kcals a day, and I lose 3 lbs a week, generally (which I believe to be a good level).
