I have lost about 40lbs since Christmas. I was wondering when I should stop the cutting stage and then add some lifting to my programme. Is cutting just getting rid of excess fat through cardio or is getting down to a weight that you can start building lean muscle from.

Could you critique my diet.

8am: 2 weetabix with semi skimmed milk.
2 egg whites.

11am: protein bar

1pm: tuna sandwich on whole wheat bread.

5:30pm: steamed salmon steaks with spinich and brown rice.

approx... 1800 kcals

Eating cards in the evening. Is it good or bad when trying to lower fat %?

You should probably start as soon as possible. It certainly won't hurt to build muscle while losing fat, in fact, the muscle will help burn the fat. Get a body fat caliper and shoot for a certain %. When you get there, make lifting and building muscle a priority over cardio and cutting.

How much do you weigh? How much did you weight when you started? Whats your exercise plan like?

Cards = carbs? Unused carbs will convert to fat while you sleep, I think. So: bad.

It's not like you eat a ton of carbs anyways. A little brown rice never hurt anyone.

I am running for about 40mins a day except Sundays. I also do 200 sit ups and 100 press ups everyday.

Height 6"3'
previous weight 260lbs
current weight 228 lbs.

I am not sure what my current body fat percentage is probably around 23-26%. Thanks for the replys.

I think I should start adding weight sessions to my programme. Should i only run 3 times a week instead of 5?

I am sorry to say, but if you lost 40 pounds since christmas, you more than likely have lost some muscle in there.

Go ahead and add lifting to your routine anytime you like though. You just won't be able to really lift 100% while cutting, because you aren't eating enough calories.

I would (already do) consume 6 food meals a day, make sure there is protein with every meal, and some carbs. Like what was already mentioned, it's fine to have a serving of carbs even with dinner, just make sure they are mid to low glycemic carbs. No potatoes, white rice, or enriched pasta, or at least not very much at all.

Great job so far :tu:
