Hey collective wisdom,

I'm getting sick of the old standby of cottage cheese or whey and a fat source (flaxseed oil, olives or olive oil, almonds, peanut butter) before bed.

I'd like to purchase a slow release protein supplement, something like like a complete milk protein or a blend. What do you all use?

I just placed an order for Nitrean. Should be here today!

Yup...Nitrean's the best bang for buck deal I know of. REAL GOOD STUFF. If you wanna feel like you're cheating, and think you're having an awesome milkshake before bed...Muscle Milk. Regardless of anything else I have in the house for protein...Muscle Milk has a permanent spot on my shelves. Actually it's more like 3-6 spots at any given time. If you can get past thinking that it's going to be bad for you, by not entirely understanding what you're reading in the supplement facts...this stuff'll help ya grow like a SOB.
The only small thing that I changed that seemed to make all the difference in the world, was that I dropped my serving size to 1 1/2 scoops to 10oz of water instead of the recommended 2 scoops.

Well I do use Cottage Cheese + Flax but sure, there are many other options. At this point in the day I'm just too tired so it's very easy to take cottage cheese, stir some flax in it, and eat it while I load up my diswasher and make coffee for the next morning. :)

MUSCLE MILK: good product, tastes incredible. Casien protein in there is decent for the pre-bed meal. I would not prefer it on a cut simply because of the high carb count. I like my fats and proteins at night time. This might not be an issue for you if you're not too concerned with splitting the two though. The taste is out of this world.

NITREAN: might be a good substitute for a pre-bed meal. I don't know, have not tried it but I am interested now. I do run a Nitrean+Flax+Water meal once per day and it is quite tasty. I am a Nitrean Junky actually; the stuff is fantastic IMHO. In fact I just got my new container this morning, YAY! :)

I am just not a big fan of shakes pre-bed because they can tend to keep me up (or wake me up) to go to the bathroom to pee. :p

Same here. On a related note my girlfriend loves MM and her trainer (who trains me too) recommended that she just use 1/2 the serving size in water; it's been helping her. Sure there might be better alternatives for her goals and what-not, but I'm a firm believer in doing something you'll stick with and KEEP DOING (assuming it's not Pizza Hut every night!).

Another pre-bed source might be a straight casien protein powder; I think ON and Cytosport makes them (?).

A friend of mine is in pro-condition (rediculously huge) and he eats...ONE POUND OF STEAK every night before bed. Dude is totally committed and looking like Arnold though. :)

Yup,
I normally use ON Casein pre-bed however Chris assured me that Nitrean was a better alternative since it is a blend of whey, casein, and egg protein. Sort of a 1-2-3 punch.

I already use Casein for a night shake. Though why are some of you adding flax in too?

slows down gastric emptying even more since casein takes ~4-6 hours to digest....you sleep for about 8 so the fat ensures it's an all night protein feed.
