Are beans like black beans and garbanzo beans that come in a can considered clean? Or if you want to eat those, should you buy them dry and make them yourself?

I would say yes.
I eat 1 can of Bush's Mild Chili Beans every day and have not had any problems. I've tried buying them dry, but frankly, it's a pain to soak and cook them, so it's more convenient to stick them in the microwave for a few minutes.

some are some are not. check the ingredients. i have not picked up a can that says beans canned in water. they all seem to have at least salt added and many have sugar. try the health food aisle if your supermarket has one. buying them dry and soaking them overnight or crockpot cooking would be the cleanest. i do eat canned beans but i always completely wash them first. i have dried black beans in my pantry that i have had for months. bought them with the best intentions but i never know what im having for dinner until that afternoon at the earliest. cant beat the convenience of those canned beans.

Good point badgolfer.

You also want to avoid some of the varieties of baked beans, as they tend to have a ton of sugar(molasses) and fat(bacon). I guess that's why they taste so damn good.

salt and spices being added is fine, as is 1-2g of sugar in the actual breakdown. anything more than that and i'd avoid it

Is that really so bad? The sugars are very less per serving (I think around 4 g or so). much of the carbs are dietary fibre.
