Hey what's up guy's. Im just really confused wheither I should bulk or cut. I weigh 220 with 19% body fat, now I have a gut. I was thinking to dropping to 190 and then building all back to pure muscle. Or should I Just bulk and gain more weight then cut. Which do you guys think would be the better way to go? thanx in advance

CUT! Easier to build muscle after a clean cut. You might shoot for 180-185 lbs before turning for a bulk to 200 lbs. What is height?

Do you shoot for a weight or BF% before cutting?

I personally look towards weight, first. I make the assumption you will have an effective diet and weight program that reduces your body fat % proportonally. When you get to any level, you will know if it is where you want to be.

I would recommend you cut first and then bulk. :gl:

What is a good BF% to cut to before you bulk?

anywhere between 1% and 12% i'd say.
but if someone is a skinny fat guy at 16%, i'd probably tell him to bulk.

Awesome.
If all goes well I should hit 12% (or under) by Thanksgiving.
What a perfect time of the year to bulk up. :tu:

Go for a cut first. I would highly recommend buying one or two books about diet and nutrition and also one or two on muscle and strength building. A great site for calorie counting is www.calorieking.com. Do 3 times a week weight training and 2-3 times cardio on separate days. If you are just starting out, the book Body for Life by Bill Phillips is great for beginners. If you buy supplements like Myoplex or not is your choice. Also, don't expect to become like the pictures he shows in just 12 weeks. That's just marketing. You should definitely buy some multivitamin pills and I highly recommend a good intake of Vitamin C (red peppers are a good low cal source!) and Cod liver oil capsules.

On a personal note, I bulked first because I was told that with the extra muscle I would burn more calories while sedentary which is true. Been cutting for around 6 months now but due to exams, graduation and other happenings, have only lost 10kg(22lbs). So I'm still not cut. However, I would have been much happier if I could see my six pack first, then bulk up.

At 220 lbs. and 19% body fat, you have 41.8 lbs. of fat. If you lose 20 lbs. of pure fat (which is unlikely), you would be 200 lbs. with 10.9% body fat. So, say around another ten pounds less than that, and you'd be looking awesome at around 190 lbs. and 9% body fat. Then, you could bulk.

I don't know what your height is, but it seems as if you are in a pretty good situation, because unless you're a giant, you can effectively cut down to a low body fat percentage without looking small or skinny.
