There are no established daily values for fish oil, but somewhere in the range of three to ten grams per day depending on your height, weight and other factors.

I would suggest starting off at the lower end of that range, or about three grams (or less) per day, of combined EPA and DHA. One gram equals 1000mg, so in your case, start off with three caps per day. They can be spaced apart.

I take a good 6 per day. Fish oil has so many health benefits. Heart health, can aid body composition, helps regulate hormone levels (as does other fat), can work as an anti-inflammatory, etc...

You can also get Omega-3/6/9 oil in most health food/supplement stores. It's the same thing as the pills you're taking and it's more cost-effective.

However, it all depends on the source of the fats in those 3/6/9 pills. Fish oil pills are high in DHA/EPA omega-3's (the ones getting all the raves) while flax is high in alphalinolenic acid (omega-3) and linoleic acid (omega-6). But who knows what the sources of those pills are (could be plant sources?).

Since we probably get far too much omega-6 fats already (from animal meat in our diet), the focus of supplementing with fat should be to get a very high ratio of 3's to 6's, therefore, ingesting more omega-3s, especially those containing DHA and EPA.
