View Full Version : To Cut or not to Cut, that is the question!

Hey guys, I'm Brad and I'm new to the forum. Before I ask my question, I just wanted to thank John as well as everyone else on the board for being such a positive influence and quite frankly, an inspiration to us all. So thumbs up to all you guys! :tu:

Background: about 1.5 yrs ago, I weighed over 210 lbs with ZERO muscle mass. I had never worked out and avoided any kind of exercise like the plague. Now I'm at about 160 lbs with quite a bit of muscle and have also become quite a health nut! I'm currently on 100% Whey, Glutamine and Creatine (all GNC brand). I've also started eating real well by incorporating "good carbs" into my diet, such as oatmeal and brown rice. Unfortunately, I only eat 2 meals/day (big breakfast and big dinner) with a PowerBar protein bar in the middle of the day. I'm not looking to get huge, I just wanna be real real toned and muscular and to do so I need a low bf%. My problem is getting rid of those final traces of fat that cover the muscles enough to where they only become noticeable when I flex. My big problem areas: love handles, gut and lower chest.

Question: Should I continue to "bulk up" while cutting or should I only cut? If so, what is the most effective and, to a certain extent, the fastest way to cut that fat out?

Thanks in advance you guys!

Diet is everything, and then cardio. Read this thread and it will give you a pretty good idea on how to start: http://forums.johnstonefitness.com/showthread.php?t=1222
