View Full Version : Hydroxycut / Xenadrine
JK2005 Thu, August 4th, 2005, 03:46 PM I have been working out for over a month now (while dieting). I see that I still have a lot of fat deposits in my chest and stomach (navel area) and love handles.
I am considering the use of Hydroxycut or Xenadrine shortly. I have read many articles stating that these supplements are very much required for fat loss and are safe as they contain natural ingredients (I am open to ephedra and non ephedra options).
Do any of you guys use it? I would like to know what you feel about it.
PeteBDawg Thu, August 4th, 2005, 03:55 PM Back when there was ephedra in these pills, they worked, but were kind of shady and potentially addictive and dangerous. Now that they don't have ephedra in them, they aren't dangerous, but they don't really work that well, either.
I took Xenadrine for a while when I first started out - I found it a useful way to remind me to stay on task with the rest of my program; sort of a string around the finger. But it gave me night sweats and made me feel sick, so I'm glad to no longer be using them.
Are they putting ephedra back in things? I heard rumors about this a while back but haven't been following it.
Without the ephedra, it's really just a cup of black coffee in pill form with some extra ingredients that mostly irritate you (make you feel like it's working by making you feel bad) without helping much.
Whether you're generally pro- or anti- using psychoactive substances to get in shape (and I'm anti-; I don't like them much), I think you can agree that post-ephedra Xenadrine or Hydroxycut is probably too expensive for its effect.

 chuckles... Anyway, yeah no, if you want to go for a boost in the metabolism, I do not recommend paying for ridiculously overpriced supplements that do not work. What I take for a thermogenic is as follows:
25mg(1 bronchaid) of Ephedrine
200mg (1 no-dose) of Caffeine
within a week or so, I am going to add a gram of ALCAR and 800mg of ALA.
I have heard that is just about the ultimate stack, especially if you take 500mg of biotin with it, and some CLA. That is basically the ANARCHY stack and the ECA stack in one.
Do a search of the forums and see what you can find. but in summary, stay away from hydroxycut and xenadrine. I took xenadrine efx or whatever last year and it was a big joke. Didn't do anything at all!

Where do you buy this from?
I see that there's no green tea extract and guarana extract here - isn't that what causes the 'metabolism magic'?
Bluestreak Thu, August 4th, 2005, 04:20 PM Just mail me $25. I'll put the money to better use. I do accept personal checks.
In all reality, you need to put more effort into your diet and cardio and skip the so-called "fat burners". Their effectiveness is marginal even in the presence of a clean, well planned diet and exercise program.

NewSkin Thu, August 4th, 2005, 04:29 PM It takes a lot longer than a month to get in shape if you've spent many years living an unhealthy life style. I've read that "Love Handles" are often the last to go. I've gone from 5'11 and 180 lbs to 5'11 155 lbs and I still see light love handles. You've got to look at whatever improvement you've made and know that if you stick with it you will only look better. Don't focus on the places that still have fat on them. Fat leaves your body in the order that IT chooses, but if you lose enough of it you'll also lose it in those problem areas.
The key here is that although some pills may cause a slight increase in your resting metabolic rate and suppress your appetite, there is no pill that will change your overall fat distribution.

I've been at this two years, I'm approaching single-digit body fat, and I still have a little bit of side, back and abdominal fat. It is absolutley positively the last thing to go. Make friends with that fact, knuckle down and make your effort as effective as you can for your lifestyle and in time, they'll go. It's been a two year fight for me, so don't expect it overnight.

Back in late 2003 & early 2004 I tried both of these. Nothing happened except that I was much more irritable. It was a big waist of money! If you want results get your diet in check. Once I finally did this in January of 2005 the fat just melted off!
Buddha Thu, August 4th, 2005, 10:03 PM Where do you buy this from?
For the time being, there are some online vendors who are selling ephedrine because of the Utah supreme court, or whoever it was, overrulling the FDA ban on Ephedra.
JK2005 Fri, August 5th, 2005, 11:04 AM I guess this summarizes "No gain without pain" :)
Actually this article made me think a lot about these thermogenics:

Thanks for your opinions. I think I'm gonna save my $25 for something better :)

Everything I am stacking can be purchased from just about any drug store such as wal-greens. It is probably cheaper online, though. Kent nutrition a JSF sponsor sells ALCAR and ALA.

The big pain in the butt with supps is finding what actually works for you. I'll second ALCAR, ALA and one more - CLA. Its capabilities within the context of a cutting program are doubted by many, but I found it useful.

Sholezard Fri, August 5th, 2005, 11:44 AM I recently read an article stating that if you want to try a fat burner, to take half the recommended dosage for a couple of days to see how you feel and if you don't experience too many side-effects, to go ahead and take the full recommended dosage. I'm considering Xenedrine but I need to do more research first.
guava Fri, August 5th, 2005, 12:03 PM Keep in mind that whatever means you use to lose fat, you'll need to keep it up in order to maintain that fat loss.

Save your money. Trust me. Ephedra, Caffeine, Green Tea Extract, K-R-ALA, ALCAR, with 15g CLA make a potent potent stack that won't leave you feeling like death if you take it twice a day.

See that's the catch..I can't imagine myself on ephedra and caffeine for the rest fo my life..I think I'll stick to my diet, cardio & weights and take the natural, albeit long route.
asifali Tue, August 23rd, 2005, 04:20 PM I have used Xenadrine, Hydroxycut, Xantrex and Lean System 7 w/o Ephedra formulas. I never used the reccomended dosage which is usually 3 before workouts and 3 before meals, I usually only took 1 before my workouts. The latter 2 (Xantrex and Lean System 7 worked best) I ended up losing 15-20 lb in about 3-4 weeks with hard work included I don't think they are worth it either. I felt irritable, rapid heartbeats tremors and all, not a good feeling, but it depends on your sensitivity. There's rumors going around that the new formulas without ephedra has a new ingredient called Citrus Aurantium (aka bitter orange) which is a milder cousin of Ephedra. It is usually found in cold medicines sold as synepherine and if you read the warnings on those cold medicines that have this ingredient it says not to use longer than 3 days. Imagine using the full dosage recommended directed by these companies, you would be dead or seriously ill after a course of it. The FDA does not regulate these products either so it has not been actually tested on humans either, so save your $$$$.
