Ok kids, PhillyDude and I would like to start a new challenge that includes reduction of bodyfat, as well as weight loss.

It begins with a BF% measurement and weigh-in on Monday, August 1. Everyone has their own individual goals; however, scoring is as follows.

(Loss of Bodyfat %) X (Weight loss) = Score

If you lose 2% bodyfat and 10 pounds, your score would be 20.

Final measurements will be taken on October 1. Anyone is welcome to join.

I'll join in! Although wouldn't a drop in body fat with less weight loss actually be more successful than the way you have it calculated? ;)

When we set this up, Fels and I had specific goals in mind... to lose about ten pounds and a few points off our body fat readings. So we agreed this formula would reward the weight loss, but add a "bonus" multiplier for seeing the calipers close a little tighter.

You are correct that if you were to lose fat but not muscle mass (maintaining your weight but with a lower BF percentage) you would not have as high of a score. You'll still be a winner in our book!

Few more days until the challenge begins. I'm looking forward to seeing results. It's always good to have a short term goal to get you motivated. I love competition.

Height: 5'10"
Weight: 182 lbs
Body fat: 17%

My goals: 165 lbs, 8% body fat

calculates out to: 33.39% BF
146.4 lbs

would love to be low 20s in BF by October!!! :tu:

good to have goals! good luck. I would like to be in the 14-15 range. Lower would be great... did you post pics anywhere?

phillydude -- Nice job. Down 4 is a great start. :claplow: Looks like I better start working a bit harder.

Down 1 and 1 for me. The bf was just by using Health Central's online calculator. I will get it done again at the gym for our final.

I haven't worked out since last Friday. Bad Derek. I'll be back at it tomorrow. I should still get in three days of cardio this week if I can get my lazy ass out of bed at a decent time. It's my bday today, so I've been eating bad, bad things. I think I've actually dropped a couple pounds since last Monday. I'll weigh in again next week Monday.

I still gotta do that... I have an old picture from about a year ago... all I can say is ewwwwwwwwww.... :o I have way more muscle definition now, so I really should take an updated one... shoot for doing that tomorrow

Forgot to check in the other day. I'm down 3 lbs (water weight). Not sure about body fat since I didn't have anything to measure with this week. I'll check in again next week. This week is kind of sucking workout wise since I'm out of town. Oh well.

don't know if i've lost weight- but sure I've dropped in BF... I was going to get that checked today, but my trainer is out-of-town this week, so I'll have to do it next Monday. Ran 3.8 miles this morning- did a 5k this weekend. Posted new pic in my journal this weekend.

I get it checked free at my gym. $10 doesn't seem unreasonable though.

Just a quick update since it's Sept. 1st. I got my bf checked at the gym today. Looks like I made a bit of progress there.

Challenge stats so far: Weight up 1 and BF down 1.2% Looks like this month I'll have to work harder. :bb: :db:

The challenge got me motivated and back to the gym which was the plan. The very good part of that is that I put half of what I lost back on as lbm. Not good for the challenge but good for me otherwise. :D

Looks like I ended up with a 7.5
BF% -2.5 ??
Weight -3 (bf -6.39, lbm +3.39)

I don't have my BF %, but will on Monday... So here is the info so far...

Starting weight: 146.4
Ending weight: 134.2

loss: 12.2 lbs

I am more interested in the BF% as I started at 33.39%... I want to see under 30%!!

Awesome job!!! :claphigh: Isn't it deceptive to see a small amount of scale number change, but then when you see the bf loss... it feels sooo good!! :nod:

I was able to get my BF tested... although technically I was 2 days late on the BF test. I don't think the results would have varied much though. :o

so I guess that calcs out to 12.2 x 4.91 = 59.902 for points...
