well some of you may remember when i started my lifestly change a couple of months back....and its going pretty awesome...ive gone from 318 lbs...to 293 and i coulndt be more excited....the past week ive been a little off my diet and exercise regimin due to a crazy life/work week...but went back to the gym this morning and feel great...the reason for this post is i have a question...
i do about 40 mintes of cardio 3 times a week on a treadmill...and i cant stand it...i was thinking of buying a new road bike...and was just wanting some opinions on whether walking treadmill would be better or worse than riding a bike...if theres even any difference at all??....thanks in advance

I can't say anything about road bikes versus treadmills or stationary bikes. But congratulations on losing the weight you have so far. I can only imagine your energy level is going up the more you trim down. :tucool:

For cardio, the main thing is heart rate. Whatever gets your heartrate up. I heard of one guy who set up 2 blocks and a board -- he made a step in front of his TV. He would watch TV and step up and down, up and down. That's great! Whatever will get your heart rate up and keep it up -- that's good cardio.

I hesitate to respond because you've been doing this a few weeks longer than I have. Congratulations on your progress! :tu:
As has already been mentioned, and based on what I understand, it's all about your heart rate - so on that basis (alone), it shouldn't make any difference whether you're on a bike or a treadmill as long as your heart rate is about the same on both. I bought a heart rate monitor at Radio Shack that was less than $50. There is a "belt" you strap around your chest with a "receiver" on your wrist that doubles as a watch. It came with a thing you can hook onto your handlebars and put the receiver on that ... My suggestion is to get some sort of pulse-o-meter and compare your heart rate on the treadmill versus what you get when doing your bicycling.... I don't know, but you might need to ride a couple of hills to "even things up".
Good luck in your continuing success!
