Ok im kinda posting this for my wife which wants to lose weight

We have calucalte that she needs aprox. 2400calories a day to maintain her weight (we used both external links pluss the formular that maruc has posted on this site).

We also found out that in order for her to lose the weight she should eat about 1450-1650 calories a day, so far so good.

I find it a bit hard to explain so i hope i do it right so everyone do understand what i mean?!?!?

Ok, at some sites on internet we read that its very important to track all your activities in order to find out how many calories you burn, from walking every morning to making dinner and other "normal" activities, again so far so good. So lets assume she wake up take shower for 20min, and she burn 50 calories, when she do her 1hr walk she burns another 250 calories, when she walk around in the house 1hr 150calories (in total every day), surfing the net and using the computer actively another 150 calories. (all this figures is not accurate, i just cannot remember the figures we came up with).

Ok so far we have 600 calories in activities she do every day.

Now, if i remember from the formular marcus has provided to us we need to multiply the amount we had with a number dependent on the level of how active she is. so if you are lightly active you multiply by 1.375x and you get some calory number.

It all boils down to find out how many calories she consumes and how many she need to burn and how many she is burning. We found a site online that calculate your calories consumed at
http://www.caloriesperhour.com/index_burn.html

so we have been busy and tracking how much calories she burns in all her activities.

I dont know if i have been clear so far or not, but if not let me know.

those daily tasks that she does also in some way or another help her to burn calories one more then the other one. And the question is should those "non-exercise" activities also be included in the formular that is provided by marcus?

If her original calory intake were 2400 (to maintain the weight she has now), but lower it to around 1400 (which means she should basically already now lose fat), and in addition do exercises like walking and lifting weights, pluss doing daily tasks as pointed out which also burns calories. Do i have to concider everything in the formular, or do i add it as in extra....

Is the formular basically for fitness and exercise, so if she walk everyday for 1hr, she should maybe calculate with 1.55? Or does the formular take into account those daily activities that is non-exercise?

A common sens of losing weight is to eat less calories and burn some calories by exercise.

some days she will do more activities in the house then others, sometimes cleaning the house, sometimes no cleaning.

I hope it wasnt too hard to understand what i meant, and hope someone can point out for us.

thank your very much

sincerely

DO NOT track daily activities. Just make sure your wife is active 5-6 days a week, either doing some kind of exercise, or a walk for an hour.

Don't drop her calories so drastically. Drop them by 500 a day, and do that for 2 or more weeks, plus exercise. She will notice a big difference.

Your daily activity is just that, your daily activity. It's when you do something EXTRA that it counts. Exercise, deliberately setting out to push your body, that counts as extra. A normal everyday small morning walk out to the mailbox doesn't count. Neither does housework, etc.

It doesn't have to be so complicated. Find out how much she was eating with a normal activity level. Subtract 500 calories from what she was eating on average. She should lose about 1 lbs a week. Tacking on exercise will up this weight loss, as it will further increase her caloric deficit. Track and make sure she isn't losing too fast consistently or too slow consistently, and then adjust the calories accordingly.
