Hey everyone,

I'm a little confused on which part of my body is the waist, as silly as it may sound. I've been reading up about taking my bf% measurements, but some say to measure the area around the navel while others say the waist is the smallest part of the female trunk.

So what's the truth behind all this?? You'd think by now it would be an internationally known fact that a certain area of the body has a certain name. So strange.

I measure both, although I have been told that the smallest part is officially the "waist". The hips are the broadest part of your backside, too, apparently

The guy who measures me who has worked with BB contestents measured around the belly button. But as I am "high" waisted I asked him to measure that and he put down both. But he doesn't use girth measurements for BF %, he takes calipur readings. So it doesn't matter for that purpose.

The belly button is usually where your measured for your abdomen. Waist is usuallly half way between bottom ribs and belly button.

I always measure at my real 'waist', the smallest part of my torso. My BB is down near my hipbones so that would be VERY inaccurate for me. :) I consider the BB 'abdomen'.

Have to say - for me personally, I measure at the narrowest point - cause I LIKE IT BETTER!

Haha! I had a feeling the smallest part of the torso was the "real" waist though, and this is what I have been using to calculate body fat and my waist to hip ratio too. Thanks! ;)
