Just how bad is red meat for you in terms of getting fat. I was planning on eating some mince lamb tomorrow, should I avoid it? I only usually eat red meat once every 2 weeks is this ok?

it's not that it's BAD... as long as you recognize what it consists of.
6oz of it is 344 calories, and of those 344 calories, 45% is fat, 55% protein.

It has calories, just eat small proportions, if you are reducing calories. I believe, from what I have read, trans fat is only bad fat. But remember calories count.

Umm, red meat is not "bad" by ANY standards. Red meat can be AWESOME for you, all depends on the cut of meat you happen to purchase.

If, for example, you decide to buy ground sirloin. Thats a fine choice, so long as you look at the % fat you are getting. 80% lean is TERRIBLE, however you can buy 95% lean also which has very similar stats to a chicken breast.

4 oz red meat = 150 cal, 5g fat, 25g protein (I buy this meat from Trader Joe's)
4 oz chicken = 125 cal, 2g fat, 26g protein.

Cool huh? Now consider that most people STRUGGLE to get enough fat in their diet (both unsaturated AND saturated, seeing as an equal amount of saturated, unsaturated and saturated are all required) and its even better! Consider the niacin and other vitamins critical to building muscles found in red meat and not in chicken, and red meat is the clear winner.

Eat those burgers baby, and eat a lot of them

I've been eating red meat and I've been losing weight.

I get ground beef, extra lean. There's very little fat. I used to be amazed how much fat would drip off into my George Foreman grill tray when I used regular ground, but now almost nothing drips down. Which is amazing in it's own right.

What can get you is the bun. I get Nature's Own Healthline Sugar Free buns. They're 110 calories. 150 calories for the beef + 110 for the bun + 20 calories of Ketchep = 280 calorie burger. I try to eat 6 meals at 300-330 calories each, so this fits pretty well with my diet. And it's about 20-30 grams of protein if I remember correctly.

oranzith is right.

before i started CKD and was doing the typical lower fat thing, i had been getting tired of chicken breasts.. so i integrated some lean ground beef burgers. definitely a good choice

You're probably fine. Just remember that if you have the 80% lean red meat once every 2 weeks then switching to the 95% lean red meat will be the same fat as eating the 80% once every eight weeks.

Lamb on the other hand is pretty high fat from what I remember. So remember to trim the fat off.
