View Full Version : Night time eating
Two Step Wed, March 3rd, 2004, 08:28 AM Does anyone else have issues with this. I can generally eat well during the day, but I seem to have problems after dinner.
I don't have as much a problem with clean foods, as the amount of them - I may pig out on some organic cereal, natty PB and organic crackers, etc. But in any case, its still too many cals.
Any good advice on how to stop this would be much appreciated.

tan_pao_wei Wed, March 3rd, 2004, 08:37 AM May be you would like to go for a run before dinner. For myself i would go for a run before dinner so that i dun have much appetite afterwards, eating quite little for dinner and even afterwards.
lindseyp Wed, March 3rd, 2004, 09:05 AM It can be tough, yes. I find a good helping of carbonated water helps me stay happy. Also eating protein for dinner which is more difficult to digest (= feel full longer)
Just what works for me...
The Mike Wed, March 3rd, 2004, 09:50 AM I've had the night time eatin problem for ages, I've had it under control, then had a stint where I was doing it regularly, and now I've got it back under control again now I'm so desperate to keep losing weight after my recent plateau (since then I've lost 2kg/4.4lb in the last 2 weeks btw :D ).
My "trick" so to speak is to drink something like a cup of tea or a pint of water instead. Of course with tea or coffee there's the caffeine, so if you have problems with sleep you should just go with the water or have a weak drink. That's usually enough to kill the hunger pangs just before bed though, it takes my mind off eating.
Trinity Wed, March 3rd, 2004, 09:58 AM What do you do if you wake up hungry in the middle of the night? Last night I didn't think I could fall asleep again without a little something, so I ate 14 almonds, dranks some water and added it to my daily food log. As long as I record it and it doesn't get too out of hand, I assume this is alright, right? Right?
The Mike Wed, March 3rd, 2004, 10:02 AM Never had the problem of waking up and needing food in the middle of the night, I can barelt eat anything first thing in the morning when I have to eat breakfast, I sometimes have to force it down :)
I doubt a few almonds are going to be your downfall unless they're attached to a cake :D
vortex72 Wed, March 3rd, 2004, 10:04 AM Metamucil works. Drink a big glass of that and it explodes in your stomach and keeps you from feeling hungry. I also make some KETO brand no calorie juice and drink a liter.. that works as well.
Dinner is still my biggest meal of the day because I'm hungriest in the evening. However, I try to eat my dinner at least 2.5hours before bed so that its mostly digested by the time I sleep. Also, dont eat carbs for your last meal.. protein and fat are better.
d_samuylin Wed, March 3rd, 2004, 10:04 AM Try eating low-fat or non-fat cottage cheese. One serving is between 80 and 120 cals; there are only about 8 grams of carbs and between 12 and 15 grams of protein. It is a slow burning protein. It will help to preserve muscle while youa re sleeping and you will not feel hungry if you wake up at night. Eat it aout 45 minutes to an hour before you go to bed.
chicanerous Wed, March 3rd, 2004, 10:27 AM If you are a late-nighter, you can try to go to bed earlier at 10 or 11 if possible. When you are sleeping, you won't be eating.
danboback Wed, March 3rd, 2004, 10:43 AM I almost have the same problem, except its not what I eat after dinner, its when I eat dinner! My schedule doesnt let me eat dinner until 9pm or later and dinner is normally my largest meal of the day! The only good thing about this is I don't normally go to bed until about 1:30 so its not like I'm eating right before bed, but its still later than I would like..
Is there any negative effects of eating this late?
