I have been working out using a stationary bike for more than a year now. In the process I have loss about 60 pounds. I work out monday through friday for about an hour. But I'm in a rush to get down to a size (stomach) that I am comfortable with. I don't want to be cut or anything, I can worry about that later. There is also a treadmill that is available for me to work out on, but I've never really tried it.

On the bike I can do 15-17 mph for the whole hour. I increase the resistance every once in a while during the workout too.

On the treadmill, I got on it for about a minute, I felt comfortable going 6mph. Maybe an incline or something will add to calories burned, but that's the fastest I will go.

I don't know much about weight loss and stuff so I have come here for help...help me please

Oh right, I'm 15, 160 pounds, 5'8". I am trying to get down to the range of 135-140 pounds. The way I see it. Lose 4-5 pounds each month starting in August and I'll be done in 4-5 months.

Welcome to JSF Forums. Glad you're here. I hope you find this community as educational and encouraging as I have.

As for your specific questions, they are very common, and most folks here are tired of answering them. Let me show you how to find everything you're looking for.

1. The stickies. Go to the top of every forum, and you'll find great information that is kinda like "required reading" for that forum. They are great places to start.

2. The search. At the top of this screen, you'll find a search function. The forums are filled with lots of information about losing fat, nutrition, bikes vs. ellipticals vs. treadmills; indoor vs. outdoor; high intensity vs. low intensity; building muscle vs. losing fat; and on and on and on.

With that said, I want to be sure you know we're glad you're here. My first thought for you is this -- what is your body fat percentage? Do you know? I ask this because it seems you are already pretty light for your height, but I don't know much about teenagers. I hope you're eating enough for all that exercise you're doing. You sure don't want to be losing muscle! Especially as you're still growing.

Anyway, good luck. Learn from the forums for a little while, then let's talk about any specifics, and how it's going for you. It sounds like you may have quite a bit to contribute since you've lost so much fat already.

I figured someone would have answered a question like this already. It's just very hard to search forums sometimes, even with stickies.

As to body fat, I dunno. I really don't know how to measure that or have the equipment to.

And my eating habits. I should eat a lot more.
- For breakfast it's either 2 pieces of toasted white bread w/ milk and fruit or cereal and water, sometimes fruit.
- Lunch, a piece of fruit, sandwich and water.
- Dinner, a salad with cheese and sunflower seeds (sometimes turkey meat) and baked potato.

wow... no wonder you've lost weight... your starving yourself and losing all of your muscle... you NEED to eat more than that.. I eat a lot more than that and I'm only 5'2.5" and around 140 lbs. read the sticky on diets in this section to get some insite on what you should be eating and how much... there is a LOT of really good information in there :gl:

I don't know the answer to your question, I would imagine a treadmill is better but I have no evidence to back that up. What I did want to do though is congratulate you on your weight loss! 60lbs loss is excellent.

If you are 160 at 5' 8" I would be looking into a weight workout schedule mixed with possibly some kind of sport, that could be swimming, a martial art etc.

I already weight lift a little, but it's hard to manage a schedule when I have homework and stuff. That's why I want to hurry up a get a head start over the summer. Only one month left.

It would be better if you replaced a few cardio days with resistance training. The more muscle you have the more calories you burn permantly.

Due to such a restrictive diet, I'd be VERY careful to work into a healthier diet, as you've probably been KILLING your metabolism as you've been losing weight.

Agreed. If you have any time available to devote to your fitness, I suggest you spend it learning about nutrition. Forget about cardio or lifting weights for now. Chameleon was right, you are eating way too little and you've probably lost a lot of muscle. That will hinder your fat loss significantly. If you just want to lose weight, then stop eating. If you want to lose fat, you need to learn to eat smart. It's not hard -- but you need to learn how to do it.

You've obviously got the discipline to eat a good diet. If you learn how to put a good diet together, you'll be a fitness machine! :eat: :gl:
