karatetricker Thu, July 28th, 2005, 11:15 AM Will I ever see my abs?
All signs are pointing to no.
Just kidding.
Anyway, why don't you give me an idea of what your body type is. How tall are you and how old? Any idea around your body fat percent level? Have you posted any pics here to get an idea of what you're working with?
What kind of cardio do you do and for how long? Fasted?
Sample day's diet perhaps?
Lots of questions, but they'll help me give you further advice.
fosse Thu, July 28th, 2005, 11:20 AM dude stop worrying. give it time. abs are 90% diet 10% exercise, they will come through just takes a while you know.

Yeah-need more info. You might not be eating enough. And/or you might not have enough muscle yet to support low levels of bodyfat. No doubt you can see your abs in time with proper dedication! It just might take longer than you wish.

hehe that was a good one :D .......i'm 21yrs old, 5'11, 180lbs, i have checked my body fat with the calipers it says 10% but i don't know if i do it right, it used to be near to impossible for me to gain weight until about a year ago i got on a mass diet not a good one i put on 80 pounds with quite a bit of fat not all ugly looking though i actually looked pretty built(with a shirt on lol  ) i went up to 215 pounds i quit lifting and got off the diet for about 4 months and dropped my weight down to about 200lbs and my strenght went to hell, i got on a fat loss diet and currently am down to the 180. Like i said i like how everything is going except my damn abs and love handles....the diet i'm on is the macrobolic diet 45/35/20 45 carbs 35 protein 20 fat although my protein is close to even with my carb intake... On monday i workout my chest and shoulders I do 7 sets to failure on flat bench(machine), 5 set to failure pec deck, 7 sets to failure shoulder raises with cable (kinda hard to describe but burns like hell), 4 sets to failure weighted crunches(machine), 4 sets to failure on ab lounge and i don't work out my triceps because when i do my left tricep pops and hurts pretty bad when i do tricep pull downs....on tuesday i work out my biceps, back and forearms 5 sets to failure standing curls, 4 sets to failure standing curls(machine) 2 sets to failure preacher curls(machine) and 1 set to failure on each arm dumbell curls( arms to tired to do more),7 sets to failure lat pull downs, 7 sets to failure each arm in forearm machine i got, 5 sets to failure each arm with squeeze grips, then i have a dnya flex that i do 2 sets at a minute and a half on each arm and then i repeat the ab routine of monday...on wednesday basically legs, 7 sets to failure calve raises(machine) 5 sets to failure seated calve raises(machine) 7 sets to failure leg extensions, 2 sets to failure squat machine thing, then ab routine...all these except wednesdays is in the moring on an empty stomach...thursday-saturday cardio sometimes 2 times a day(first thing in the morning then in the evening) or sometimes just the morning or just the evening...used to do HIIT but I like LISS better makes me feel like i have done more running 3 miles instead of just 1 and being half dead...sunday rest....
my diet i know because everyone says you need to eat more and not drink meal replacements but i'm a meal replacement kind of guy the way i see it is they're called that for a reason....3 macrobloic shakes they do feel me up they contain slow buring carbs found in oats and veggitables and time released protein and essential fats, 2 pieces of chicken, yogurt, i eat this everyday for sure and sometimes i'll eat some tuna sanwiches on wheat bread no mayo or subway or more chicken, shrimp, salads or steak. the protein shakes speed up metabolism despite what people say that you have to eat in order to do that and like i said i used to be able to not gain weight now i can put on weight fairly easily.
pmh Thu, July 28th, 2005, 12:19 PM I would replace 200 cals of carbs (50g) with 50g of protein and see how that goes for a month, it might aid in lowering your b/f a little.
Your abs can show even if you are 15% b/f, the trick is to train them heavy, if they are thick they will show through. You could try weighted situps on an incline bench. Try holding 5kg on your chest and increase the weight as you can. Do 6 to 10 reps just as you would any other body part.
Do pulley crunches with a lot of weight, use a cable crossover pulley (assuming you have one) and kneel on the floor, with just the power of your abs crunch (curl) in as if you are curling into a ball. This must be done only with the abs, don't use your lower back or momemtum.

Now to your post:

You are indeed correct. They are called that for a very important reason; so people buy them. They're fine here and there, but not for 3 meals a day. I don't care what they're called. Eat real food.
Now, I would probably eat more. You're young and very active and nowhere overweight. I would try to aim for at least 2000 calories/day, but even a tad more may be beneficial.
I don't love your lifting routine, but I don't have time at the moment to get into it. If it's working for you, great, I just don't like the set up. It's kind of all over the place.
Do you have any pictures to give us an idea of what you're working with? It's not necessary, but may be a nice help for us to give you better advice.
JeremyLikness Thu, July 28th, 2005, 12:26 PM Hi, Mike. Something you might consider.
I was frustrated after months and months and not seeing my abs, too. I studied everything, was on the forums, thought I knew it all, but couldn't break through the barrier.
So, I decided to hire a coach. It made all the difference in the world.
I learned a lot from that lesson, because when I went into business, I decided to hire a coach as well ...
Anyway, what I'm saying is, if you've tried everything and can't get results, perhaps your best bet is to find someone who knows how to get results and have them work with you closely.
Jeremy

Agreed. Mike , look into Swolecats SGX cutting program. It sounds like its just what your looking for. That program WILL have you seeing your abs in no time.

What exercises do you do for abs? I couldn't see any, but I gave up trying to read it.
Try the net for a coach, Jeremy is one of the best.

Skoorb Thu, July 28th, 2005, 02:30 PM Abs, and their visibility, is almost totally determined by your bodyfat. You can work them forever or never, but until your bodyfat is 10% or lower they're never going to make much of an appearance. Most people have sufficient abs for a half-hearted (at least) six pack if their fat is just low enough. It's tough to get it though, no doubt. I normally have a four and I've never had a full on six. I may never, but it's only because I don't care quite enough; not that I don't believe I can.
