I live on campus, about 1 mile from the gym, so I decide to walk it instead of driving (parking here sucks). Anyway, I tried jogging a bit on the way, did 30 mins. cardio (10 elliptical, 10 stairstepper, 10 bike), and then some weight training (pullover, flys, situps). Anyway, on my walk back home, as soon as I exited the gym, my legs started cramping up really bad - feet and calves. On every step my calves would cramp up, and I had to stop numerous times to stretch my muscles on the way home. It got so painful I barely made it, and it was starting to rain. Any ideas why? I'm on a low carb diet (insuline resistant and lost 80lbs already on low carb). It's also that time of the month... though I'm not sure that's the problem since this hasn't happened to this extent before.
Thanks!

Did you drink water during your workout?
Do you eat enough sodium?

Type 1 diabetic here. If my sugars suddenly get really high, I get severe cramps in my legs. It's rare but very noticable. If you are running on the high side for an extended amount of time I have heard that people get cramps. Also, if you are running high, exercise often makes sugars rise rather than fall  Not sure if that has anything to do with your experience, but you might test to be sure that it's not. :gl:

It's not sugar high - my bloodsugar is always low. My ex boyfriend was diabetic and I'd check my levels too - I was always in the 70's and an hour after I ate I barely touched 90's. I think it's the water. I didn't drink water before the workout and I didn't much during the workout because I didn't want to interrupt to go to the water fountains. The thing that sucks about walking to the gym is that I hate to carry too many things with me, and a water bottle is just one more thing to carry. I left it home. I'm in Kentucky and it's been really hot and humid here.

Good to hear :) Water could very well be it, or as rt pointed out you may need some minerals.

Well there ya go. Lack of water can cause cramps.
