View Full Version : *long* My Findings with a "Blood Type" based diet...

First of all, a few disclaimers:

This thread will not contain too many numbers (if any) simply because I went on general feeling and visible results as opposed to measurements and bf percentages.

Second, many people scoff at the idea of a blood type diet and write it off as a fad diet. Well it probably is, but using it as a basis shows that it is not far removed from what is considered optimum on these boards.

So here we are:

About 6 months ago I had gotten away from 6 meals a day 2000 cals- mainly due to the fact that I was now in college and was lucky enough to be eating period.

A fellow actor (who was one of the most cut guys I had ever seen) told me about this "blood type" diet. A quick overview is this:

Based on your bloodtype you can optimze energy, weight loss (muscle definition) and your immune system byt eating certain foods geared towards your bloodtype (either A, B, AB, or O).

My friend had told me that he had gone vegetarian half a year ago, and within three months was unable to do a pushup- he was that weak. However, once he gave this diet a try- his bloodtype was "O"- his energy levels skyrocketed and he was feeling and looking better than ever.

Fast forward to me. I also have O bloodtype, as does my entire family. My diet consisted almost entirely of Beef, Vegetables, fruits and water/green tea. I had to cut dairy and wheat completely out of my diet along with pork, potatoes, coffee and basically any processed food.

Being a diet skeptical (who strangely tries fad diets to test their worth) I took a calcium supplement and made sure to keep the cheat meals in once a week. I also hit the gym 6 days a week (3 lifting-3 cardio).

The results- my energy levels are amazing and i'm seeing more muscle definition than ever- though I'm switching to HIIT to get past a plateau. My strength is the gym is huge, and I'm feeling like well oiled machine.

HOWEVER, the bloodtype O diet is based on high protein and clean carbs -much like the people on here already eat- yet has many more restrictions. If you are A blood type, it suggests you go mostly vegetarian (some fish is allowed). So I cannot comment on how effective that form of the diet is (my girlfriend is blood type A and seems to be having similar energy results with her vegetarian diet however.)

Believe what you will, but for me the diet is working very well, mainly since it is a blanced diet with a few minor tweaks that really work for me.

I know it's a controversial subject in a forum like this, but I would love to hear feedback or questions!

Heh... I would love to, since it would give a complete view of the diet itself, only problem is since I have "O" type, then trying the "A", "AB", or "B" diet would not yield relevant results since they are not "designed" for me. It would be a somewhat pointless experiment! :rolleyes:


However, It would be great if someone gave the equivalent setup a shot with another bloodtype.

Nah. That's my whole point. Although I think some are better than other based on their merits, all of those ways of eating are valid for weight loss. Really has nothing to do with blood type. I would fully expect you to lose weight on any of those diets given proper calories and training. Try it and see if you don't believe me.

To the extent that certain genetic populations have similar blood types, there may be some truth to it. That said, I don't think it would be possible to generalize based on blood type alone :)

i think the main reason any of these types of diets gain popularity is because people like things to sound "special". i mean the diet will be effective, but the whole doing it by blood types probably yields little difference.

the average person probably doesnt want to hear, "follow a diet and exercise plan", they want something unique/interesting/exciting about it, i.e. "you are following this diet because you are blood type O".

I chalk up your success to the lifestyle you're livin brotha. I *DO* believe blood type has an effect on body type. There's always that darn A blood type skinny white guy friend of yours that eats dominos day in and day out while maintaining a perfect six pack :d_confuse.

That said, if you enjoy it and the blood type mumbo jumbo floats your boat, by all means keep it floating and enjoy the ride!

my blood type is A. My father is also an A(His family is generally zeros and As)but my mom's blood type is B. Now, that would make me an AO. Also, since my father is an AO and my mother is an BO, I could have had any blood type that exists and this is just directly from my parents. So, well, I would take any claim that correlates blood type and ancient life styles with a grain of salt.

However, I am not claiming that there exists no correlation between someone's blood type and his metabolism for certain types of food. There might be some, yet, I would bet that would be quite weak if exists at all.....that would be my prejudice
