I've been running for 3 weeks on the treadmill but now my shins are getting quite painful. I run 40 mins a day and I suspect because I can now run faster the pounding is causing the problem. I was struggling at 8km/h but now I'm up to 9.5 and the other day I got to 11 for around 10 minutes which is when the pain started. Today I had to give in after 25 minutes.

I've lost 13lbs in 2 weeks so I don't want to give up for any period of time, the aim is fitness not just weight loss.

Is it my trainers, running form?

I'm 220lb @ 5' 8".

Thanks

i have the exact same problem, last week I ran 4 times for 55 mins and now i can't run anymore, i think it was cos of the fact that i was overdoing it and my body wasn't used to the excessive running. Maybe instead of running everyday, u should only do 4 cardio sessions per week, ie 2 running and 2 cycling/rowing.

Most likely you are suffering from shin splints. Do a search on google for it and you will find tons of resources to help you out. The best thing you can do for yourself is get good running shoes. I had the same problem some time ago. Actually mine was due to playing volleyball barefoot. I saw a doctor about it and she recommended that I get some good shoes and the problem will go away after sometime. It did!

They are shin splints. I get them sometimes really bad after only 5 minutes of walking even, to the point where I limp. Try using an eliptical machine or bike for awhile.

Here is some info on the injury...
